Tweaked 0 #1 April 8, 2003 Hi there, Can anyone help me with some information on obtaining an AFF rating in the US? I am a UK based jumper but I'd prefer to get USPA rated for a number of reasons. Anyone with any info on where I can find out details of what's involved in doing the rating, useful preparatory work, publications which may be of help etc., I would really appreciate your help. What to expect on the actual course would also be great from someone who's recently obtained the rating. Cheers all, Tweaked
mustard 0 #2 April 8, 2003 Hi Tweaked, I had to go through the course twice before I could pass it, and I found it to be the hardest thing in skydiving I had ever done. Now, though, I've been an AFF evaluator for a couple of courses and can tell you that you can't go wrong looking at this guide that Rick Horn has used for ages: http://rickhorn.com/affpc.pdf It's a PDF file, so I hope you can download one. PM me if you need help opening it. It will certainly start you in the right direction. Good luck! BTW, there will be a course (and a pre-course, which I cannot recommend highly enough) at Mile Hi Skydiving in Colorado in mid-May. See the rating calendar on USPA's website for further info. *** DJan
Shark 0 #3 April 8, 2003 In addition to Rick Horn's Pre-Course guide, know the Bottom End sequence. Get lots of practice on Cat. C/D-2 skydives with current evaluators and be aggressive. Good luck.
Tweaked 0 #4 April 8, 2003 Thanks a lot guys...What is the Bottem End sequence and what are cat. C/D-2 skydives? Think the UK terminology must be different... Cheers TWKD
Shark 0 #5 April 8, 2003 The Bottom End Sequence is basically the pull sequence actions. They are explained in detail in the manual and IRM. Cat. C/D-2 are essentially the AFF Level 3 & 4(modified to do 360 vs. 90 degree turns.)
