ralu 0 #1 April 9, 2003 My boyfriend is a s/l instructor and until last year the Aeronautical Civil Autority gave them international licenses according to ICAO regulations, now the ACA gave the authority to the Airclub of Romania to licence the professional skydivers, but they don't give international license. Is there a way to maintain his license international? thanks ralu what would be a woman without her dreams....
Tonto 1 #2 April 9, 2003 Hi There, No-one seems to recognise anyone else's ratings. When I went to the US, they were not interested in my SA ratings, and when I returned, they were not interested in my USPA ratings. Tandem seems less affected, as you are rated by the manufacturer on their gear - but here you need 1000 dives before you can do Tandem or AFF so you may find even that is not accepted. I've found that licences (A, B, C and D) transfer without a problem. I know all AFF students I've trained in SA are accepted in the UK, some in Europe, non in Switzerland - even if they have their licences. I don't see a problem with riggers - although our governing body still expects them to transfer (Pay for) their ratings here. tIt's the year of the Pig. SkymonkeyONE 4 #3 April 9, 2003 The problem, in my opinion, is the WIDE disparity in how each discipline is trained to completion. If everyone from every dropzone in every state of every country trained the same sylabus, they maybe an international license could work. Figure the odds though. Hell, in the USA we can't even settle on one cellphone format, thus we all have to settle for second rate systems and phones, unlike Finland, Japan, and most of Europe who have better phones, better coverage and pay less. As for the skydiving instructional ratings: there is just no way that you are going to convince countries like the US and Britain that they need to change their systems, or that they should compromise the integrity of their instructor training programs to accomodate travelling skydivers. Just my opinion as someone who has globetrotted quite a bit. Chuck
