jumpinmunky 0 #1 April 17, 2003 8 months ago I got married My wife has done one jump and I am at about 40. We are saving up so we can start jumping again this summer. My question is this: By the time I have the $ to jump I will be close to having the $ to by gear. Do I start jumping again this summer or wait until next fall but have my own gear. What would you do my friends?
Amazon 7 #2 April 17, 2003 Buy Gear... you dont have to buy the gear for the dropzone in fees. get something appropriate for you... USED..... but serviceable... It pays for itself when you are not renting(buying the dropzones stuff for them) you can search online... most of the larger sites.. like SkyKat and Square1 and Western Parachute sales have inexpensive stuff.. and most have riggers on staff if I am not mistaken......good luck.... Tasadin 0 #4 April 17, 2003 I found this guy www.para-service.com was good. New gear at almost used prices. Depends what ya want but i got a good deal. "If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough."
Clownburner 0 #5 April 17, 2003 IMHO, I think it depends on how much you're going to be jumping... It's better to buy gear if you're jumping a lot, but at $25/jump (less if you get packages) for gear rental, you have to jump 100 times to justify the cost of that $2500 worth of gear, if you can find a reasonable used kit. If you're going to be jumping only about 20 times a season (Heaven Forfend!), it may not be worth it by the time you add in the cost of repacks and cypres maintenance. Having said that, I just bought a set of gear that I'm going to have to jump like 400 times to hit breakeven. But I wanted my own gear... riggerrob 643 #6 April 18, 2003 Learn how to pack. Packing is the best paying job on the DZ. Or try bartering plumbing, electrical, accounting, etc. skills for jump tickets.
