Islandcool 0 #1 April 23, 2003 Need a little advice. I've had my rig for about 45 jumps. Most days it feels great. Others days it feels too big for me. I bough it used so it wasn't custom fit. I know it's the right size. So usually I'm sitting on the otter and it feels a little loose so I start tightening the straps a hair more. I know it's just because I'm sitting. I always tighten all my straps before I get on the plane. Man this seems like a dumb question but... Does it matter if you tighten your chest strap first then leg straps or vice versa? Thanks Ed

skygod7777 0 #3 April 23, 2003 i know a lot of people who say you should tighten you chest strap then leg straps because you do you chest strap, and it kinda gets the rig situated a bit, a little more even. then you tighten you leg straps, and gets it straight. they say if you do you leg straps first, you may get the harness un-even. i personally think it's just a bunch of crap. i always tighten my leg straps before my chest strap, i don't know why, i just do. it does't really matter for me. later
riggerrob 643 #4 April 23, 2003 Best place to tighten your harness is while standing on the ground. Confirm that you can still arch, then leave it alone. Your confusion is caused by the rig riding up on you when you sit in the plane, Re-tightening your harness in the plane can prevent you form arching. Maybe your time riding in the airplane would be better spent reviewing the dive plan.
CrazyIvan 0 #5 April 23, 2003 I just tighten my straps BEFORE I get on the plane, I keep my chest strap kinda loose. What I do while climbing to altitude and before exiting is check my handles.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. Watcher 0 #6 April 23, 2003 You should (especiially with acrticulation) get the chest strap fit right then adjust the leg straps. If you do it the other way around you end up over tightening the the webbing that runs up your side so when you go to tighten your chest strap you cannot get it the correct tightness because it is pulling that lift webbing in and if the leg straps are already tight you cannot bring the chest strap in tight enough and its too loose on the shoulders. Some might call it bull or crap but if you think about the physics of what you are doing it makes a lot of sense. Chest strap then leg straps, And I tighten my leg straps up a hair or 2 right before exit because sometimes they will loosen a bit on the plane riide up. --Jonathan Bartlett D-24876 AFF-I
