mikeat10500 12 #26 September 12, 2003 Quote Operational altitude for an airborne drop is 350 ft. with 100 lbs. of gear and they do wear a reserve. ??????? 350' with reserve?????? What for????? You do realize there is more than one military force in the world. Quote They also have a 30% malfunction rate. What world is this? You do know how many times 30 divides into 100? Quote I must have misunderstood you on the AAD. The way you were describing them made me think you were against them. That's my fault...I stir up shit sometimes in hope that it will make people think! I think AAD's are a good idea...but blind faith is not. P.S. Please check attached photo and circle the 30% that will not make it.----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists. Chrisky 2 #27 September 12, 2003 The 30% is not the malfunction rate, it's the number of men lost from active combat duty through insertion. That includes malfunctions, woundeds on 'landing' AND opposing forces during approach and landing as well as wrong DZs etc etc. It's a calculation based on a D-Day style combat drop. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
