Fireflyer 0 #1 June 12, 2003 There is all kinds of discussion on the web - why blocked here? (forgive the question if the answer is generally known - I'm still a newbie, just concerned...)
indyz 1 #2 June 12, 2003 If you are talking about the one in Incidents, it's probably because it strayed too far from the intent of the forum (you can read the guidelines by clicking on the "New Post" button in that forum), or devolved into bickering. I saw some of both.
Michele 1 #3 June 12, 2003 Most likely because it was getting contentious, and personal, I would suppose. Sometimes, people get upset with comments made by others which would not necessarily bother them otherwise. If it's the thread I am thinking about, maybe because there was a discussion which was getting a tad graphic for such a recent event, and tempers started to get riled? Not being a moderator, I am not sure. Or maybe because there was already three or four threads going (which may actually be the case.) Sometimes, a little breather is a good thing...I am certain this accident will be dissected for many years, with different observations and opinions being discussed very much. Hopefully, once things have settled and more factual data is determined, we can learn something from this. Fireflyer 0 #4 June 12, 2003 yeah, i figured as much, but i thought the moderators would allow positive posting, and delete the crap. i am aware of any potential controversy, and i agree, there is no place for that here. but not allowing tributes to a fallen comrade is garbage in my opinion. whether it offends people or not, i say the moderator delete what they see offending or controversal and allow the positive sentiment
mikkey 0 #5 June 12, 2003 Tributes and the like are posted in Talk Back. The incident forum is to discuss and learn from the incidents. Read the guidelines.--------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. When ants look like people - pray. Michele 1 #6 June 12, 2003 Hiya, Fire... We have several threads in Talk Back which pertain to Roger Nelson's memories and positive tribute (mostly). The Incidents forum is used only to discuss factual data of an incident. Sometimes, speculation (within reason) is acceptable, but people try hard to get first hand info, or second hand if it comes from the DZ O, S&TA, or other credible witnesses accounts to the accident. Should there be a need to post condolences, it needs to go on it's own thread in talkback. Same thing with Vibes and/or Get Well Soon's...if there is an incident and you would like to post a condolence or GWS or Vibe and there is no thread already existing, feel free to start one in Talk Back. This is done so that people don't need to read through the condolences if they are looking for facts, or if in need of condolences, not unexpectedly encounter something they were not prepared for. It is hard, sometimes, to be able to separate yourself from your emotions when a friend/family member gets hurt or dies, and Incidents tries really hard to not be an emotional place...kinda like Friday's line "The facts, just the facts". Does that help explain things? And it's always o.k. to ask. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
billvon 3,107 #8 June 12, 2003 > but i thought the moderators would allow positive posting, and delete the crap. Such posts are welcome in Talkback, but not in Incidents. There are a dozen threads in Talkback with positive discussions about Roger, and you are welcome to start a new one if you choose. > i say the moderator delete what they see offending or controversal >and allow the positive sentiment The incidents thread lock was because a thread in incidents, which is a forum dedicated to the discussion of the facts of an incident (and how to avoid such incidents in the future) devolved into namecalling. That has no place there. Since there was a bit of discussion that might be of value to others (i.e. don't start CPR on someone with a pulse) I left it visible.
