PurpleBadger 0 #4 June 25, 2003 I have to say jump costs, that's just because I get half price jumps at my DZ for being military (£9 not £18). However is it weren't for money then it would be a compromise between the driving distance and the DZ attitude!

riggerrob 643 #6 June 25, 2003 Airplane quality is important to me. I would much rather jump out of a well-maintained Cessna than a ratty Skyvan any day.

Snowbird 0 #8 June 25, 2003 I don't actually have many choices. I love my home dz and usually jump here because it's close and I love the people. If I choose to drive and go elsewhere, cheaper jumps are great but even more so it's for coaching. There are awesome RW coaches here, but NO ONE to coach freefly. That said, I generally choose the closer option. I'd love to visit Pitt, but it's half a days drive... Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein
CanuckInUSA 0 #9 June 25, 2003 There are a number of reasons why I jump at my home DZ as opposed to the next closest DZ. 1) Location, location, location. I'm a 20 minute drive from my home DZ compared to 90 minutes. 2) Currently the aircraft at my home DZ is better than the other DZ (though they are the same type of airplanes). 3) The landing area at my home DZ is better than this other DZ. 4) The weather (winds) tend to be calmer at my home DZ. 5) I was trained at my home DZ and at least 75% of my jumps to date are made there. But I will say that the post jumping partying MOJO is better at this other DZ. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

falxori 0 #11 June 25, 2003 errr, because at the moment its the only DZ in israel, not sure syria will let me jump there, and can't afford a trip to europe every 2 weeks and its a cool DZ, so i'm ok. Jib 0 #13 June 26, 2003 When I did a tandem, there were 3 DZ's within 60-90 minutes and I decided completely by word of mouth and safety. Now, word of mouth and safety still matter. The size of the dropzone goes along with the vibe created by the DZO, staff, jumpers and proximity to necessities like beer, sleep and food. I'd also drive farther (but weekends only) for a turbine. On the other hand, I split a slot to get the 206 in the air today => $8, no brainer! -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. dreamsville 0 #14 June 26, 2003 From the point of view of now, not necessarily when I started jumping: 1) Friends 2) Aircraft 2) Amenities |I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
ChileRelleno 0 #15 June 26, 2003 Oh the joys of being a longhaul trucker! Well after 34 states and 59 DZ's none of'em "really" matter except "driving distance" and the distance/miles to a DZ only counts when the detour off my planned route exceeds 10%. Some such as jump price, and staff/DZ friendliness are influencing factors as to whether I'll have happy memories of a DZ but with the exception of one DZ in Alabama and one in Nevada I'd go back to every DZ I've visited ChileRelleno-Rodriguez Bro#414 Hellfish#511,MuffBro#3532,AnvilBro#9, D24868
Iflyme 0 #16 June 26, 2003 well ... the DZ has to be on the same island I live on ... that is the most importand -- and only factor in my choice.

bunge 0 #18 June 28, 2003 the aircraft and jump prices, and distance are without a dought a factor. but personally i also look for the Vibe of the funjumpers and staff, the landing area, and the scenery on the ground and altitude. BUNGE I don't hate them, I just like us better.
