Muenkel 0 #1 July 1, 2003 I'm up to cat. d-1. I'll be down in Florida this weekend for some tunnel training. I was wondering if I could do a level or two at perhaps DeLand while I am down there. I'd ask my home dz, but they are closed mid-week. I would bring my log sheet with me. Thanks, Chris _________________________________________ Chris
andy2 0 #2 July 1, 2003 how it was explained to me was that if you had a well filled out and signed log book, and you wanted to, you could. The drawbacks are that you are going to be flying with new instructors, people that youre not used to, and are not used to you. You could run into some snags that you didnt confront at your home DZ. Sometimes they might make you repeat the last level too, if theyre not sure about you. Just what I've been told. I liked doing my whole AFF at one DZ, it was nice and comfortable. And of course your home DZ is going to persuade you to not do it and stick with them if you ask!!! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... tb62871 0 #3 July 1, 2003 It can be done. I was told to bring the logbook, USPA card, and the phone # to your current DZ with the names of the instrictors you have been jumping with so they can check up on you. The DZ you are visiting may have your home DZ fax them a copy of your student progressoin card (your report card at the DZ). It requires some effort but it can be done. --TB Welcome my friends to the show that never ends.
sinker 0 #4 July 1, 2003 good idea Chris, imho, as long as they don't make you go back and repeat anything. I like your gun-ho attitude... -the artist formerly known as sinker
FliegendeWolf 0 #5 July 1, 2003 I did my FJC and level I at a different dz that I did the rest of my progression at and I didn't have a problem. I ended up going through basically a whole 'nother FJC at the new dz, but they didn't charge me for it. I was happy to have it, actually, as my training at the first dz was... how to put this...harried? Your mileage, of course, will vary depending on what drop zone you are coming from and what drop zone you are visiting.A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
txojumps 0 #6 July 1, 2003 Why don't you call Deland and ask? *************************************** Awright, guys, you don't have one, so don't act like one
Muenkel 0 #7 July 1, 2003 I will do that. Thanks folks, Chris _________________________________________ Chris
Bip 0 #8 July 1, 2003 I did my level 3 at another DZ. I just called ahead and made sure it was ok. I got extra points as I made the secondry aware that his chest strap was not done up while we were in FF.
billvon 3,109 #9 July 1, 2003 Usually it's not a problem. Sometimes you may have to do a different level than you expect since not all DZ's use the same student progression; you may perceive this as "repeating a level." It all depends on the DZ. Muenkel 0 #10 July 1, 2003 Well after some thinking and some good advice, I decided to stick with my home dz. I feel as a new jumper, it's important to work at a dz that I am familiar with and with instructors who I know and know me. DJL 235 #11 July 1, 2003 Actually, I think following up your wind tunnel time with an AFF jump would be a pretty good idea. That way you can apply what you've learned immediately. It shouldn't be any big deal to get in an AFF jump down there. The instructors will probably just be a little more careful since they don't know how much you've absorbed so far."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
Jessica 0 #12 July 1, 2003 Plus, the tunnel is going to make you very, very sore. I'd wait until the next weekend to pick your training back up.Skydiving is for cool people only
Muenkel 0 #13 July 1, 2003 I was thinking the same thing Jessicakes. In fact I took this past Sunday off because after only doing 2 jumps, I was so friggin sore and bruised. I swear when I PLF, I must roll over rocks, turtles, stumps, and God knows what else. Also, student rigs suck! juanesky 0 #14 July 1, 2003 You could ask for Kim and her husband Frazier, they can certainly point you in the right direction. They used to jump in Lincoln RI, and there I finish my AFF, which I started in Titusville, FL. Get your stuff ready and there with you."According to some of the conservatives here, it sounds like it's fine to beat your wide - as long as she had it coming." -Billvon
Genn 0 #15 July 1, 2003 Do whatever you feel comfortable with. However, there are some really great skydivers/instructors in Deland...you would be in very good hands and would probably learn a whole lot. Not to mention, they have a huge landing area....great for students.

No damn wonder you're sore! You dropped quite a bit there....I even winced. JumpScars remind us that the past is real
Muenkel 0 #17 July 1, 2003 Yeah, that would be me. The timing of my flares still need some work. You should have been there when I flared and then abandoned my flare due to a brain fart. That wasn't smooth either. BTW, next time you see me, introduce yourself. I'll be at Jumptown the weekend after this one. Muenkel 0 #19 July 2, 2003 I'll be sure to look for you Steven. And thanks for the words of encouragement. You said exactly what my instructors said about the flare. It takes practice. I'm sure I'll get it. Chris _________________________________________ Chris
