D22369 0 #1 June 30, 2003 Does anyone know what dropzones have the virtual reality canopy simulators? Are there any on the west coast? Thanks RoyThey say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
CanuckInUSA 0 #2 June 30, 2003 Flight simulators are good for training pilots on procedures, but do little to help a pilot learn how to land the airplane. So the same could be said for a canopy simulator. Of course I can't answer your original question as I don't know for sure that a canopy simulator does or doesn't exist. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

D22369 0 #4 July 1, 2003 My girlfriend is having problems with her landings and mentioned that she would like to practice just her landings and I remembered at a past PIA simposium that they were demo'ing the software, harness and stuff. the write up was positive on it, so I was hoping one of the larger west coast DZ's would have one, thanks; RoyThey say I suffer from insanity.... WayneRATS 0 #5 July 1, 2003 they sound great but what about practice flaring at altitude? she can get maybe 6 "landings" per decent if she had the mind too.. what is the problem?.. freaking out close to the ground or just not controling the canopy------------------------ Can You Ere Me Now? I'm not sure what the wright up was but I was not all that inpressed on the realism of it. You have more tendancy to look straight down insted of out. This may be do to the canopy profile. As of the PIA they only had limeted canopy choices and size. Their is no phisical feedback other than hanging. I think it is a great video game but you don't practice driving a car by playing video games. Just my $.02-------------------------------------------------------- Some one must go to the edge for others to be able to find it. But if you go be sure you can make it back. WayneRATS 0 #8 July 2, 2003 sounds like a habit may be forming.. talk her down maybe using a radio? she obviously trusts you , just get her to hang on in there and teest her own nerve with you telling her when to flare... eventually she will see the height she needs to flare at in her OWN way and thus stand up tell her to look out rather than down as well.. that stops the ground rush (not telling anyone how to land here just tips i've found help me)------------------------ Can You Ere Me Now? phonics1981 0 #9 July 2, 2003 Ive been told that if anyone has a problem perceiving height, tell them to flare when they can pick out individual blades of grass. This should make the flare the correct height. ive never tried this but ive heard it works. ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
