Hung by the lines...

Recommended Posts

Just thought Id mention this. I was at a car wash last week and saw some film about a skydiver that was 'hung' by the neck by the lines of his parachute. It was hard to hear the TV so I didnt catch any details, but it showed him going down and looked like he was incapacitatedl. When hitting the ground he was out cold (I think, not dead), but I dont know if this was caused by strangulation or hitting the ground too hard, I think it was stangulation. The canopy looked like it was tangled up to some extent, but partially open and not spinning.

This was freaky, did anyone catch this?

Around 1986 here at Ft. Bragg we had a military static line jumper land in the trees at night. He began going through his procedure to get out of his equipment and climb down. Unfortunately, he released his chest strap and leg straps without disconnecting his chest-mounted reserve and hung himself. That was a really sad incident.

Saw a student on a static line PRCP jump pull the belly wart ripcord instead of the dummy ripcord and got 2 round canopies out. She cut the main away but the RSL wrapped around her neck, reinflated the main amd hung her. She was in this situation in the air for about 3 or so minutes, lived over it but was quite mentally impaired after that due to lack of O2 to the brain. Not a pretty sight.
The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
