NeedToJump 0 #1 July 22, 2003 I came across a few posts relating to tracking (this, this and this) but I wanted to get an indication of how slow people get their vertical speeds on average without a wingsuit (using a FF suit, RW suit, no suit...) I've seen the minimum speeds as being quite low after coming out of a steep dive, but what do people get as an average tracking speed? I did two solo tracking dives over the weekend to see how slow I could get my vertical and my average speeds were 84 and 80. I have no idea what my minimum speed is because I don't have jumptrack software. My speeds are TAS and I use a ProTrack in my helmet.Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

mikkey 0 #3 July 22, 2003 Maybe a stupid question, but only people with "jump track" would have the data? The Pro Track AFAIK only gives max speed and average speed? (I only have a pro dytter - so no idea...)--------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. When ants look like people - pray. NeedToJump 0 #4 July 22, 2003 I only have a ProTrack without the software, that's why I'm asking about average speeds, not the lowest Oh, and my 84 and 80 were done in a tight RW suit with medium grippers and normal booties.Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

I don't believe the Pro-Trak speeds for people coming out of a steep dive into a track. The pressure transients due to changing head and body position will completely screw up the ProTrak's fall-rate calculations.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. NeedToJump 0 #6 July 22, 2003 QuoteI don't believe the Pro-Trak speeds for people coming out of a steep dive into a track. That is why I wanted to do a poll on average speeds. It's also a lot harder to hold a slow vertical speed than to just briefly get that slow. You would agree that the average speeds the ProTrack records are fairly accurate?Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
NeedToJump 0 #7 July 23, 2003 Woah, I must have missed that before, who voted for <50 and how'd you get an average speed so slow?? Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
