Dumpster 0 #4 August 4, 2003 Looks like the first one is from a belly-up plane, and the second - Do Casas / Skyvans have a hatch on the backbone somewhere, or did the jumpers ride up on the backbone? Easy Does It
AggieDave 6 #5 August 4, 2003 Yup. There's a hatch right behind the pilot's seats in the middle. I've seen pics of ppl putting a rope out that, so they could work their way down to the tail of the Pink skyvan to launch stuff off the tail. Cool, but the stuff they do with that plane isn't exactly what the airframe was intended for...--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Nutz 0 #6 August 4, 2003 Is that first picture the one where everyone ran to the back and the plane stalled? I saw that on some "reality" show, it was awsome! (I'm glad that I was not on the plane.) The thing stalled and did a backflip and then the pilot flipped it back over and, thank God, regained control. Scary stuff but that is a cool pic. "Don't! Get! Eliminated!" lummy 4 #7 August 4, 2003 It's the Pink skyvan... Having seen some of the other things they've done, I'd say the plane is upside down on purpose...I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. mr2mk1g 10 #8 August 4, 2003 I have a friend who flies a win suit. Last year he was in on the world reccord breaking bigway birdman flocking dive in sweeden. During the warm up jumps he filmed a guy exit the tailgate of the herc and cos of the forward speed he got from the plane he was actually able to climb above the herc. Its an awsome bit of footage - my mate is stood on the tail looking out and you litterally see the guy exit and drop before climbing back up out out of the top of the shot. tombuch 0 #9 August 4, 2003 File this answer in the "Fun With Cessnas" pile. Many years ago I figured out that if you are sitting on the doorsill of a Cessna 180/182 and the pilot flies a parabolic giving you zero-g, the jumper can push off the step, sending him up and back toward the tail. From that position the pilot can adjust the rudder to get the horizontal stabilizer in the jumpers hand for a brief instant. After that quick encounter the airplane begins a descent and the jumper is actually above the Cessna watching it drop away. It's a pretty cool visual, but NOT for beginners. Tom Buchanan Author JUMP! skydivejersey 0 #17 August 5, 2003 Even the worlds top high jumpers can only get like 8 / 9 ft. I've been on planes at 16,000ft and that the ones we jump out of. I am then happy to conceed thay my jumping abilities are far and away exceeded by any plane. Case closed.
