Return to the skies....

Recommended Posts

Having only completed 101 jumps (FAI cat c) and been out the sport for the past 5yrs..... i'm looking to get back up there again.

I've been to a UK DZ (Chatteris) and been told all i need to do is rejoin BPA, complete 1x10 second delay being watched... if good, i'm cleared to full flight status....

HOWEVER.... anyone know if i could go over to Empuriabrava to do this? And if so, do i have to join BPA first, or can i take temporary membership of Spain equivelent?

Basically i don't want to pay full year BPA membership for only 6 (winter) months of membership... so thinking of making the most of hols near empuriabrava.... and gettin' back in the saddle whilst there.

HELP. ;)

cheers peeps B|

If you join now, you wont pay full years membership I dont think.

You have to join the BPA on your first freefall and the price drops throughout the year.

Really pissed my friend off though. She had to pay £25 for 3 weeks before havinging to renew it at £70 [:/]

i checked at the weekend, and still would have to pay a full year.... i think it's very unreasonable concidering there are only 7 months left, and most of them are over winter !!!!

If i end up with no alternative, i'll just not bother coming back to the sport.... at least until March...

and i thought the BPA were supposed to encourage membership.... especially from people returning to the sport !!! >:(>:(>:(

I asked at the DZ, they told me i had to have a full years membership to jump in this country. Ironically, had i been an overseas visitor, i could have had a months membership and done the jump......

penalised for being a UK resident... pah!

I've emailed the BPA, but haven't as yet had a response, i've also emailed empuriabrava, but am also still awaiting their response.

thanks anyway.

empuria is BPA affiliated if that makes a difference.

The other thing is that you will find a lot of places may be more strickt than only asking you to do a 10sec delay and pull - some others will ask you to perform a series of check out dives.

I'm pretty sure you can take up the spanish equivalent for 3 months - this is what I did when I did my AFF over there this June.

You'd have to do at least one check out jump though - an AFF level 7 equivalent (loops/360 turns etc).
