slotperfect 7 #2 August 28, 2003 I wear a hand mount (left hand) all the time. When I do AFF, I wear an additional wrist mount inside my right wrist. This way I have an altitude reference no matter which side I'm docked on, and also a spare in case my student's altimeter breaks in the airplane.Arrive Safely John

wmw999 2,560 #4 August 28, 2003 I wear an altimaster 2, so it goes on my chest. Too big for my wrist or hand (though (I've considered trying). Dytter in my left ear. Why an altimaster 2? It still works. I'll get something smaller and cooler when the 2 dies. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

SkymonkeyONE 4 #7 August 28, 2003 Small Saphire on my left top-of-hand. I also sometimes wear an Altimaster II on a wedge on my left hip. Slopperfect promised me another one, but neglected to give it to me.

CanuckInUSA 0 #10 August 28, 2003 I have my two audibles in my helmet which are used primarily for my freeflying break off. Then I wear a wrist mount for deployment. And finally I also have an altimeter mounted to the left leg loop on my container and I used that for landings. I know some people who only wear audibles and some people who only wear wrist mounts. But as an amateur swooper learning the trade, I was happy to talk with SkymonkeyOne at Rantoul about wearing an altimeter on my leg loop and how he endorsed that sort of thing. Granted my canopy isn't as ground hungry as Chuck's (it's more important for him to dial in his carving swoop altitudes), but I still like being able to glace down to view the landing area and my altimeter all at once. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
Yoshi 0 #11 August 28, 2003 alti II on my left wrist most of the time. dytter in right of left ear depending on which helmet I use. once under canopy I always switch my alti from my middle and ring finger (the loop) to my thumb, which then orients the face of the alti right at me when using risers. also use that method for crew. -yoshi_________________________________________ this space for rent. flyangel2 2 #13 August 28, 2003 When doing RW: left wrist mount, protrack in right ear. When doing CRW: I have a clear pocket on my left leg pants that I put the alt in. Works great and is out of the way.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. slotperfect 7 #14 August 28, 2003 QuoteSlopperfect promised me another one, but neglected to give it to me. Actually, I had forgotten all about those! The guy who makes them had PM'd me back saying he would ship me two. That was right before I left for the desert. When I got back, that was one package that had not shown up . . . I didn't realize it until you mentioned it just now. I'll dig up the thread and PM him again.Arrive Safely John
smiles 0 #15 August 28, 2003 I am a geek...from day 1 wore my wrist mount on my right hand- (I am right handed)...and have yet to see anyone else wear it there. So- when dumping I cannot check alti on left wrist while right is coming back to pull----I do check it when waving off -and have no problem being aware of my altitude at pull time. **my Barigo is now 16 years old- was $90. cnd. when I purchased it and still works fine!! Remster 30 #16 August 28, 2003 YIKES!!! Its your call Karen, but I have visions of skulls and crossbones..... Doesnt wearing your alti on your right hand add a real risk of PC entanglement?Remster
councilman24 37 #17 August 28, 2003 I think yours is as old as mine. Altimaster II, new in 1980. Original crystal, almost no scratches. I have a III on a wrist mount. I even wear it on high stress jumps. But I don't think I've ever remembered to look at it in freefall. Cann't get used to looking at my wrist. That's for time, not altitude! The II is on a chest pillow with my Jack the Ripper mounted handle down on the back. Puts the knife where I can get it with either hand, on my sternum which doesn't bend so the knifes not in the way, and knife holds the altimeter in place and the altimeter holds the knife in place. For the newbies, we wore altimeters on our chest partly so that the other people we were doing RW with could read them. You read the persons across from you. Of course they aircraft style altimeters started there next to the stopwatch mounted on top of your belly wart reserve.I'm old for my age.
