Ron 10 #26 August 29, 2003 QuoteWhy an altimaster 2? It still works. I'll get something smaller and cooler when the 2 dies. An Alti 2 can die? I have seen them survive bounces. I have an Alti III on my left leg for RW And Alti III on my wrist I use for students. wmw999 2,587 #28 August 29, 2003 QuoteAn Alti 2 can die? I don't know yet. I bought mine new in 1975 for $59 or something, and painted Mickey Mouse on the face (yes, folks, I was young). It's had a crystal fall off in freefall, and been dropped any number of times. It's been mounted on 4 different rigs I've owned, and on conventional gear I didn't. I'm pretty used to having it on my chest. My mount is extremely basic, and hasn't failed me yet. Maybe I'll keep it Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. kmcguffee 0 #29 August 29, 2003 Alti II on my chest for FF. Alti III on my left wrist for RW. Wendy I have a wrist mount for the Alti II I'd be glad to give you if you need it. I don't use it anymore. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
bluefingers 0 #30 August 29, 2003 I've got an Alti 2 as well, given to my by a fellow dz.commer (thanks Matt!!!!!) It works well, and has been looked after. One of the riggers on the dz made a mount for me, it sits on the back of my hand, and it's quite comfy! I borrowed a wrist mounted one once, but my wrists are really skinny, and I found that it hurt that little bone that sticks out of your wrist. webracer 0 #34 August 29, 2003 Dytters in each helmet, Alti IIs on each rig at right leg strap. I have made special pillows to angle them the way I want. I got tired of putting it on my wrist. This works for most everything, but if I do AFF I will put a wrist mount on (something I can show to the student if necessary). Lastly, I still have my eyes, which are pretty good altimeters. The internal clock helps too. TroyTroy I am now free to exercise my downward mobility.
tbrown 26 #35 August 30, 2003 I'm trying out the wrist mounted Alti III's these days, but on breakoff from RW I really MISS having that good old Alti II on my chest strap. Don't like having to look for something like a wristwatch in a track, with the old chest mount I only had to look down for a moment. Anybody remember the days when people used to mount their II's on old beer cans ??? Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !
