Earplugs

Recommended Posts

I have used the the typical foam earplugs for hundreds of jumps, and find it easier to concentrate without all the extra noise.

I also think it is easier to hear my audible.

I think I have only seen a couple other people use earplugs.

Is it more popular than I realize? What are your thoughts.

Maybe this isn't an issue with the fullface helmets, I still use a Protec.

Never used a fullface yet. Are they so quiet?

I've just started using earplugs for the ride up to altitude. I -should- have done so MUCH sooner, as IMHO others should as well.

I'd know about hearing loss from high decibel sound, but was foolish about just how much an Otter (not to mention the SkyVan) insidiously began to steal a precious sense.

I noticed the hearing loss when I tried to take the blood pressure of my patient at work this year. I could NOT hear the heart beat!!
I tried again, and was still unsuccessful.

This brought home very hard what has permanently happened to my hearing. This could have been prevented, if I had been more astute in protecting my ears. Planes are LOUD and consistent exposure to them WILL cause damage.

I use them; sometimes I take the left one (dytter side) out on jump run, because I don't always hear my dytter. Of course, I don't really rely on it, either. The only reason I'll take it out otherwise is if there's a load captain who's talking and I can't hear them. Well, either that or really good gossip B|

I've started using them when I mow and edge, too. Makes a difference.

Been wearing ear plugs for the last decade/ 3,000 skydives.
In the short run they reduce fatigue, and in the long run they have slowed my hearing loss. Without ear plugs I am exhausted after a 6 jump day.

I normally wear foam ear plugs on a string and pull out one or both of them out immediately after opening to better hear my tandem students. It is much easier to pull ear plugs when you wear an open-ear style Pro-Tec helmet.
