Contact Info Needed for Collegiates

Recommended Posts

Try dropping a line to Lake Wells and ask them. If I remember correctly from Collegates last year the event organizer, not the collegate organizers from the USPA, was responsible for providing the camera pool.

I hope you have fun at Collegates, I'm sure as hell not going.

Contact Lake Wales. Last time there they just had their tandem guys and a few regular 4 way guys do it. A few people broguht their own, but the majority the DZ picked up.

Flyboy62000 was added to their video pool for the event as an outsider and he had needed to show a few videos to prove that all the points were visable and there were no video busts before he was allowed to jump with the College groups. Between all the staff and the team videograpers he made 2 jumps and it took him out of the fun jumping for 2 days.

Unless your going with a team or have no real intention of fun jumping since you can be used for any event (2/4 way) at any time those events are going on and you can't be off fun jumping during those times... it was too hard of sacrifices for me to make. I ended up doing 12 fun jumps instead.

Yeah, a few reasons.

1. The only thing I would compete in would be Freeflying, since they don't have a swooping competition. Last year the FF comp was a fucking joke, they didn't know what the hell was going on, they didn't have the rules fully defined AND FF wasn't even a fully sactioned event. I can't compete in 2-way and since I was unable to get an Aggie 4-way team together to start training back in the spring (there still aren't enough jumpers who are willing to commit to even 4-5 training jumps a month right now), there's no point to going out there to compete in 4-way.

2. I'm going to have right at or near 1000 jumps come the end of December, in the rules governing collegates if you're in the sport 6 or more years and have 1000 jumps or more, you're not supposed to compete. You can, as long as you don't meet both of those requirements, but its frowned upon. Also, I have instructor ratings, that's sort or frowned upon too.

3. Instead of driving my ass to Florida, I would much rather drive to Eloy to enjoy what is traditionally perfect weather for jumping at a VERY large boogie. Ask the folks who went to collegates year before last what the weather was like in FL. Look at what the weather normally is in December/Janurary in FL. Cold/rainy is in good supply in Texas during that time, so I'd much rather go to the desert, jump my nuts off, actually enjoy myself and party with friends.

Basically, I was pretty unhappy with how loosely everything about collegates (well, everything but 4-way) was run last year and would much rather have a good time at a kickass boogie in Eloy.
