Shadowplay 0 #1 September 22, 2003 I did my AFF levels five and six yesterday. I was going to turn this into another self serving "YEAH I'm ONE LEVEL AWAY" post but I have a real question. This was the first time I've ever done more than one jump in a day, actually I did them on consecutive loads. Today I am pretty sore throughout my shoulders and back. I'm guessing this is a normal? Oh yeah, and this muscle that is on my left arm that connect to my shoulder, I don't know what it's called by I seemed to have tweaked it. I can't really move my arm above my head real easily. Is all this stuff normal? Just wondering. Backflips are fun...
freakydiver 0 #2 September 22, 2003 Its normal - you'll get more and more used to it the more regularly you jump - take ibuprofen and beer. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --

DeNReN 0 #4 September 22, 2003 I think anyone new to the sport will find themselves noticing "new" muscles....Try doing 4 or 5 jumps plus spending half the day on the packing matt(next morning you may find yourself speaking in the groan and moan language) I find that streaching before, during and after really helps....being in shape may also help but I must keep developing my freefall weight(beer gut ) Ever try wake boarding??? Lots of new muscles there . I never thought my butt could be that stiff..hehe
schattenjaeger 0 #5 September 22, 2003 Yah, I only have three jumps, and I felt fine right after each one of them, but the next day I was sore in all the areas you mentioned, though it's gradually getting better each successive jump. Just like my ears in fact, after my first jump I couldn't hear crap 'till I was on the road home, the third time I was good to go after a few minutes. I guess you just get acclimated to it steadily
phonics1981 0 #6 September 22, 2003 The pain I went through during AFF was BAD! I used to have big black bruises around my groin from opening shock, big bruises on the front of my shoulders from opening shock and a stiff stiff back probably from opening shock! It does get better. ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
ksjumper 0 #7 September 23, 2003 I get pretty sore from jumping if I'm not jumping regularly. I think you have to get your body into "Jumping Shape." I don't skydive for a living but I'd guess those who do jump everyday their bodies get use to the jump activity. I attribute some soreness to the arching and the openings, but a fair amount of it can be blamed on my poor posture while I'm packing and just being out of shape. Student canopies don't always open the softest as in your case probably. I'd have to agree, Ibuprofen and beer Is the way to go!! JM

Once you start to rent demo gear instead of jumping student rigs it gets much better....3 aff jumps on student rigs in a day and I'd have more than a few bruises....none now-except from the occ'l plf! Muenkel 0 #9 September 23, 2003 Absolutely, positively normal. Bruises too Don't forget that you're new and jumping with student gear that has not been fitted exactly for you. Good luck with your progression. Chris _________________________________________ Chris
Dagny 0 #10 September 23, 2003 I jumped twice in a day for the first time and now I've got bruises on both arms and my thighs. Between those and the bruises on my legs from mountain biking, I look accident prone!! The thing I learned this past weekend at the DZ, ibuprofen works miracles and beer and margaritas make it all okay!Take me, I am the drug; take me, I am hallucinogenic. -Salvador Dali
Casch 0 #11 September 23, 2003 I've found that after some time, your body gets used to the bruising and doesn't bruise so much in those areas. After about 20-25 jumps I stopped getting the bruises.
