sarge 0 #1 September 22, 2003 I don't have the issue in front of me, but I still am wondering about the Presidents Commentary in the USPA article about why our (USPA members) insurance is going to have to be changed (eliminated)? Why are PRO from Demos claims so high? was it like the average claim was like $50,000 or something? compared to like the average sport claim being $3,000 ? The exact numbers (if they're even representative is less important) don't matter as much as why the hell are the PRO claims to blame for our increased rates ?-- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!! skycop 0 #2 September 22, 2003 There were several large claims mainly during the mid to late 90's, these had a ripple effect that we are feeling now. Most of these were demo's gone WAY wrong, including fatalities (spectators). Also there was a spike in individual members claims that may have been little shady in some cases, i.e. not in the spirit of what the members individual insurance was supposed to be. AirTwardo or other professional demo jumpers would be able to explain it a little better. The bottom line is that it screwed members who like to do occasional demos, and it made pro teams' performances much more difficult because of the cost factor. I've already lost one demo and future demos are most likely gone for me too. At least until this thing gets unscrewed. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" airtwardo 7 #3 September 23, 2003 I have addressed this subject at length in two threads in this forum... Go 'in' a few pages and review my posts titled: "Should PRO requirements be increased?" As well as- "USPA Member? READ THIS!" From your post I believe you don't fully understand the issue. Your questions are somewhat gone over in these threads... If after reading the prior discussion pertaining to this important subject, you have additional input... We'll see if we can get clarification. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
spectreflyer 0 #4 September 28, 2003 Go back and re-read the article slowly. I thought it was very informative. He (Glen) said that the insurance companies settled the claims rather than going to court to fight them. It's happening in all areas of life. Insurance companies have a far better chance settling with a claimant, rather than facing a sympathetic jury.
airtwardo 7 #5 September 29, 2003 And Unfortunately, once the claim was turned over to the insurance company... USPA is out of the loop! The organization couldn't 'fight' against a claimant if it wanted to... And though my comment wasn't well received in a similar thread it this forum... I still say that regardless of the dollar amount... The problem ... (with the PRO program) ...is that there were so many claims in the first place. Either poor decision making, or unqualified jumpers doing demos. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
