I had the same feeling the first time I read the incidents forum, but you know.....you learn from reading about what goes wrong. It is scary and it does make you think more about the risks involved. It also makes you more aware.

I went through the same thing myself. You get used to it quickly. You also only hear about the really bad jumps, you don't hear about the tens of thousands of jumps that go off with out a hitch for every one jump that makes it in the incidents thread.

You'll be alright, it'll just make you more aware. Fear is fuel.

The reason for the incidents forum is so that we can learn from the experiences that others have.

You shouldn't read through thier with a mindset of 'all this could happen to me so I better not go'

But rather with the mindset of 'these are things that can happen, now that I know about them I can work to prevent them happening'

The goal of a FJC is to teach you how to deal with problems that arise while skydiving, how to prevent problems, and how to be safe around other people. (That and the basic skill set)

What can I say to make you feel better? Well, for the most part we have all been there. We have all had the feelings (for the most part) that would try and keep us from going. They do go away, eventually your mind will give in to the reality that you can jump out of a plane, and have a decent degree of saftey, an acceptable level of risk, and a whole lot of fun.

I was pretty worried about all the crap that could go wrong for awhile, I have kinda gotten used to knowing about it, and having to deal with some problems already has made me confident that I can deal with emergency procedures. I gained this through practice, and learning.

Have fun and blue skies!

Guess I'm just an odd ball, never had any bad feelings put in my head by the incident forum. But I do get excited by the gear and rigging forum sometimes! B|

I always read the incidents forum first, and I always read the "Incidents" in Parachutist first. Both reports are meant to be educational. Since you're just starting, and a little nervous, maybe you should skip that forum for a while. Once you're more familiar with the equipment and the sport, you'll see those reports for what they were meant to be: Education.

Kris,
Nothing to be scared about.
You see car crashes everyday (in person or television) yet you still drive right??

Same thing don't think about it, learn from it. don't make the same mistake.

On another note I'm the one who said "Kris Good Luck" as you were walking to the plane. You had the look on your face like "Who are you, and how do you know my name" Welcome again to skydiving!!
When you go out for your next level talk to your instructor about you concerns... it helps to talk about them...
