Reetah 0 #1 September 28, 2003 Hi! I am not much of a skydiver :)) I have currently done 9 jumps, all of then on dome parachutes which I know arent used in the usa... :) I will be coming to the usa next summer, I'd like to buy a complete system and not change it for the next few years... what would you advise me to buy? :) something that's good for both learning (I am very careful and not a risktaker!!) and later for performing... something at least semi-elliptical... the problem is I won't be able to upgrade often, maybe once every 3 or 4 years only... oh btw I weight 130:)) I'll be taking aff course very hopefully soon... based on whatI've read, I think i can relative safely to go for w/l ~1.2-1.3? *hugs* /~R~\
PhreeZone 20 #2 September 28, 2003 A better wingloading for just off AFF is 1:1. There is plenty of fun and learning on canopies at a 1:1 wingloading. Get through the AFF and see what your instructors are reccommending. Always plan on the worst landing possible and be happy if you get a landing better then that.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Reetah 0 #3 September 28, 2003 Rig rent price is included in aff course here... I'll take a 150 sqf rectangular students rig for the aff course and will continue renting the rig till I come to the usa to buy my very own :)) so I want my own to be as good as possible so I dont have to upgrade soon b/c I wont be able to... I expect to have a little experience by then :)
andy2 0 #4 September 28, 2003 I only have 58 jumps but at 25 jumps I started jumping a 1:1 WL and trust me it is very nice. You'll be suprised at how fast even a 1.0 WL is. If all else fails go with your instructors, they'll know you best! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... sundevil777 102 #5 September 28, 2003 QuoteI am very careful and not a risktaker!! Not a risktaker YET! Your profile shows skysurfing as your second preferred discipline. I hope this means you are looking forward to the future. Even the non-elliptical canopies are a lot of fun at 1:1 w/l, especially at your weight, 1:1 is faster responding than for someone heavier.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
Samurai136 0 #6 September 29, 2003 How many jumps do you plan on doing in 3-4 years? I'd buy a Spectre at the wingloading your looking for. Ken"Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
b1jercat 0 #7 September 29, 2003 A saber 2 would work also, however at your size a 1.0 wing loading would work better. good luck! blues jerry
tetra316 0 #8 September 29, 2003 I would get a Sabre 2. I've had one and am staying with it when I downsize. You get beautiful openings and flied conservatively they can be very docile but start pushing it and really flying it and you'll find you almost have a different canopy, similar to a stilleto but faster I'm told. And they can really swoop!!
dragon2 2 #9 September 29, 2003 Hi, With your weight, a 1.2/1.3 WL would mean a 120 sqft canopy. I weigh the same as you, and over here (Holland) you need 500 jumps to jump a 135 let alone a 120! Also you'd need 100 jumps for anything smaller than 170 sqft. There's a reason for that.... Now I myself jump a 135 and 2 different 126 sqft canopies, and they are small. I bought a spectre 150 for my first canopy, at 75 jumps, after downsizing from a 280 to 230/190/175. Man did I biff the first 8 or 9 landings! A WL of 1.0 on a semi ellip 7 cell was way fast for me, at that point. But the canopy lasted me a long time (what you are looking for). My 2 cents: get a relatively docile 150 or preferably a 170 sqft square or semi ellip (like a spectre/triathlon/sabre/sabre2/safire etc), you will have your hands full I promise. I have never jumped a round so I can't imagine the differences, but I very much doubt the transition to a smallish square will be easy... Do you have to start out on a 150? (don't they have anything larger??) After you've flown and landed the 150 a bunch of times, re-evaluate your canopy choice, see if you still want (dare?) to go smaller...... By then you should have a better idea of what you want. ciel bleu, Saskia
phonics1981 0 #10 September 29, 2003 I'm looking to buy my first kit and i've been recommended by a few people to get a Spectre. I originally fancied a Sabre2 but people have really good things to say about the Spectre, apparently really smooth, on heading openings are easily acheived. ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
