Hazarrd 1 #1 October 7, 2003 I am curious to know what USPA's policy is about checking up on dropzones that are registered with USPA. I would assume that DZ's receive suprise visits once in a while, or some form of a check-up. .-.
Ron 10 #2 October 7, 2003 Nope, they sign a pledge to follow the policies. They can ask for an inspection...I don't think anyone ever has asked."No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers,

If this is true, then why are there so many people who claim that USPA makes this sport so safe. How is it safe if the rules aren't neccessarily being enforced? Isn't that a paradox? .-. Isn't that a paradox? Excellent question, and, yes, it is a paradox. USPA VCIP program has only inspected one DZ, and it failed. USPA has no authority to regulate skydiving, only the FAA does. Unfortunately the FAA rarely checks up on DZ's and even then usually don't know what to look for. They tend to concentrate on the jumpships because that is where their experience lies. A DZ can be a USPA GM DZ, follow the FAR's and break the BSR's and nothing will happen to it, as long as they send in their GM check once a year. To the first jump student, "We are a USPA Drop Zone and follow all the Basic Safety Recommendations" carries weight. In reality it means absolutely nothing. Hazarrd 1 #5 October 7, 2003 Wow, that is both sad and pathetic. And here I thought there was so much regulation over skydiving which is what made it safe... .-.
tictoc 0 #6 October 7, 2003 I don't find it sad or pathetic. The reason skydiving is so safe is because the entire group makes it safe and we do such a good job that the FAA sees no reason to step in (for the most part). The fact is that the USPA has set down the BSR's and alot of DZ's do follow them to the point that it sutes thier situation. We as a group have reailised that one rule for everyone is not alwase the the best way. So no it is not sad or pathetic it is actuly quite goodthat we are able to do what we do without a bunch of regulation. Just my thoughts on it.-------------------------------------------------------- Some one must go to the edge for others to be able to find it. But if you go be sure you can make it back.
