Forum Idea? USPA?

Recommended Posts

With the ever growing popularity of DZ.com and the lack of an interactive medium with our organization, do you think it would be a good idea to have a USPA forum here?

Just a random thought that occured to me this morning - and not sure if this has already been discussed.

Ideas, thoughts? HH?

If I was on the USPA BOD I don't think I would want to spend every day wondering and worrying about what was said on DZ.com. Sorry, but this forum has some limitations for meaningful discussion. All electronic forums do. If you want change then show up to the General Membership meetings and email your RD / ND directly. DZ.com is not here to subsidize USPA.

Dealing with the membership and their opinions is part of the job when you end up on the USPA. Thin skin should not be a reason to avoid hearing what paying members want others to know about.

Also, I believe there should be a place where there is an active discussion that the entire membership could take place in - such an area is missing and we currently need to wait for our magazine or USPA to update the webpage.

This section could help bring to light certain "hot topic" areas that the USPA often never hears about until they send out another "what do you like about the USPA" questionnaire.

Plus, the biggest complaint from the USPA is the membership is not actively involved (re:proxy vote) other than renewing their membership. Maybe this could be a step in the right direction to bring the two sides to the table. I'm not looking for a "roast the USPA" forum - we have rec.sky for that already.

The reason I suggested something here on DZ.com is a combination of this sites popularity and the forums are moderated. Maybe a member of the USPA could be setup as a greenie. Remember, the DZ.com rules would apply to this area.

Also, I did attend the BOD meeting when it was in Chicago. I cannot afford the time off or the cost of travel to any other meetings.

In a perfect world it might be a good idea but we all know the answer to that one don't we? The problem of political in fighting and anti USPA and all the other hoopla you can read about on rec would end up here and there would be more deleted and locked threads then you could shake a stick at. Besides, HH avoids those type of things to keep this site free of the associated problems. If you had a USPA forum you would also have to have a BPA forum and such or the anarcists would start screaming about sheeple and the usual rhetoric you find at rec.;)

To be honest, the best way to do what your talking about would be for the USPA to set up a BB or chat on their site and allow members to log in and share their feelings there. I'm sure that you could E-mail the USPA and make the suggestion and probably get someone from here to write the scripts and what not up so that they wouldn't have to do everything. You hand them a complete turn key solution and they will be more apt to accepting it IMO.

Is'nt this meant to be an international forum? A lot of people on here ar'nt from the US dont forget!

I realize that - and I'm sure HH could add something in the International forums for each of their organizations. Or better yet - maybe one large forum for all the organizations? This way it becomes a place where the each of the associations could learn from each other, and jumpers get a better perspective on issues from a global standpoint?

I'm not sure what the situation is like around the rest of the world - but the reaction from Lou and Chris is a very sad thing - their belief is that any dedicated forum about the United State's organization will instantly turn into locked threads, etc. This just shows how poor the relationship is between the BOD and the members, and how much somthing like this is needed.

Your failing to see the big picture. There is a right time and place for everything. DZ.com is the Wrong place for a forum dealing solely with USPA issues. USPA has their own website for a reason. If you don't understand the reasons for this then I suggest you ask some people who have been around awhile about USPA discussions. It's a long and heated debate.

It doesn't reflect on the BOD or the members at all. What you are talking about is not a bad idea but it doesn't belong on DZ.com. If anything, it should be for all intensive purposes on the USPA site.
