jumpgod 0 #1 October 24, 2003 Is it just me, or does no one do this anymore? What happened to the good old 8-way SCR dives and beer pouring ceremonies? It's the quintessential skydiving initiation!
beowulf 1 #2 October 24, 2003 They still do that at Skydive Dallas. I don't know about other places. This year at Skyfest a bunch of people recieved their SCR and SCS. Bill Newell SCR 3 was there for it.
jumpinjackflash 0 #3 October 25, 2003 Ok, I've gotta tell you. I work in IT we are the one of the reasons, no one actually fu$%ing talks anymore. Everything is a FU$%ING acronym.... With this in mind, WHAT THE FUCK IS SCR/SCS??? Sorry, I controlled the profanity for as long as I can! Sounds like fun to me (beer me), so I'd really like to know what it is. peace, JackIt's a gas, gas, gas...
skybytch 273 #4 October 25, 2003 SCR = Star Crest Receipient SCS = Star Crest Soloist To get an SCR you have to be part of an 8 way or larger round (or "star") formation - IIRC the exit must be "free flown" (not holding on to each other). To get an SCS you have to dock 8th or later on an 8 way or larger round. SCR/SCS's are cool... but WSCR's and WSCS's are cooler.
wmw999 2,584 #5 October 25, 2003 They are from WAY before people "being in IT." And, mainly because of the tradition of beer pouring, they seem to be mainly a Texas thing any more. But we definitely do them here. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. As for everything else outside of skydiving, I could explain that with references to research articles that have been written, but that would pull this thread off topic, thus I won't post it here.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
