Brian425 0 #1 November 3, 2003 Well, my reign as god of wind and rain still holds. It was supposed to sunny and in the 70's at the ranch. Well, I show up early on Saturday and it's cloudy until around noon. I got in two jump on Saturday after the clouds cleared up. I did pretty well on level 10, docking. Level 11 I struggled. I had to adjust fall rate to match my coach. I just could not do it. When I went to slow my fall rate, I was potato chipping like crazy. My coach came over to stabilize me and I still could not adjust my fall rate very much. I was given the choice to move on to the next level. I decided after talking with my coach to repeat the jump. My feeling is that I should spend my early jumps working on basics and getting them down pat. Plus it was fun working with Baker (my coach). Sunday was MISERABLE!!! I got up on jump 2 even though there was some high clouds. We go to 10,000 and there were too many clouds for the student jump. My coach (Pete this time) suggested I do a hop and pop. I said yes. Something didn't feel right as we were coming back down, I felt a sharp pain in my eye. I had my first two way plane ride. It seems like I was getting a cold and my nose was a little stuffed. Well, now I am sitting here all stuffed up and not having gotten to jump. My eye feels better but it's a little bloodshot. This has never happened before. The GREAT part is that they cleared me to jump solo and do hop and pops. So even if there are no coaches to jump with me I can jump while I wait for them to be ready for me. So next week, bring the rain coats and look for me doing my best to jump my ASS of while waiting for my last two coach jumps. Thanks to everyone that has given me support and advice. I left the ranch at 12:30 did the weather clear up? Brian, now officially know a Storm The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand. Brian425 0 #3 November 3, 2003 I think that being able to do solos and hop and pops will help me. I am always more relaxed on the second jump of the day. I also have to work on my exits. I still do not present very well. It can make for an interesting perspective of the world. plane, blue, green, plane, blue, green. I always get stable; but, it's only 50/50 that I get a nice exit. I need to imrove that. I watched a guy go out on Saturday and he was the picture of a poised exit. That is my goal. I know it may take time; but, I think that it's a worthwhile goal. If I had time and money I would be off to Florida for some more jumping over the winter; but, that damn work thing keeps getting in the way. I guess I can't complain, it doews pay for jumps. Muenkel 0 #4 November 3, 2003 Brian, I had a ton of rain delays during my aff last June. If you remember June was extremely rainy in the Northeast. Just hang in there and have patience. I'm glad to hear you flew the plane down when you were feeling pain. Safety first! Best of luck to you, Chris _________________________________________ Chris
BBKid 0 #5 November 3, 2003 Hang in there buddy! Sounds like you're progreesing well, as far as I'm concerned. Did anyone else notice how easy everything becomes the second you clear student status. I never had such precise turns as the dive after getting my cat 8, just being relaxed and not under pressure does that for ya. Nick --------------------------- "I've pierced my foot on a spike!!!" JeffD 0 #6 November 3, 2003 Florida weather can be nasty too. I had to sit from 10am to 5pm before I could get in an aff jump last week because of wind. Now yesterday winds were 15-20mph and While a load was on jump run there were sprinkles of rain coming down on manifest. But I hope the weather gets better for students here. zipp3baker 0 #7 November 3, 2003 Thank you for the kind words. I had fun too Hang in there, we all had the weather blues, it is a right of passage. Keep taking advantage of the learning opportunities available on the ground. Weather days on the drop zone can be extremely enlightening. Glad your eye ball is feeling better. See you next weekend. Have fun, be safe.
Brian425 0 #8 November 3, 2003 I spoke with my eye surgeon today. All is well with jumping. I've had laser eye surgery and a pucture pump put in my tear duct. Apparently with a little bit of a stuffy nose and the pucture pump (a small valve put in my tear duct to improve flow of tears), I can build up quite a bit of pressure in those little mystery passages in my head. Doctor said NEVER go up with a bad cold or sinus infection. Otherwise he said if I am slightly congested due to allergies, etc to take cold medicine and wait unitl I am completely clear before going up. He said I am the greatest case for his work. I had a motorcycle accident at the track 3 months after the laser eye surgery and now sky diving with the pucture pump. He told me to call him after my next jumps to see how it went. Maybe I'll buy him a tandem for Christmas. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
