rmsmith 1 #1 November 17, 2003 Anyone here make the trip to altitude at the Nationals in this Twin Otter that was fully refurbished including the PT6A-34 power plant conversion? Was it a fast climb? Comments? http://www.jetstreamaircraft.com/Airplanes_For_Sale/TO_DHC-6-100_1967_SN29.htm
Brian425 0 #2 November 17, 2003 On Otter with seats? Never seen one. If I only had a few extra $$$ The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.

Those kind of benches are very common.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
PhreeZone 20 #4 November 17, 2003 Its a screamer. Inside it's super nice, all the benches fold if needed.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Rdutch 0 #5 November 17, 2003 Its more familiar name was Yankee Doodle, its the old Pahokee Otter, Paul did it up right and from what I hear its also for sale. One of the nicest otters Ive ever been in. Someone is going to own a bad ass plane. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!

quade 4 #7 November 17, 2003 Awesome airplane. Very clean, very nice. One issue. The camera step is WAY, WAY, f'in high. WAY F'IN TOO HIGH. So f'in high at least one Open Class team camera flyer asked not to have their team manifested on it. And another Open Class camera flyer really, REALLY, should have done the same. Let's put it this way, it's entirely possible that a different team would be going to the World Meet if it were not for this plane.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Rdutch 0 #8 November 17, 2003 Your right about the step being too high, the person who nstalled it flubbed up. They wanted them to all be exactly the same so they measured the distance from the bottom of the cargo hatch. Except on the difft model otters the hatch is bigger and smaller, so one ended up real high. As far as blaming the step for the Nj all three teams used that plane, so they all had an equal chance at it. We all used it, and had to improvise, some did better than others. airgord 1 #9 November 17, 2003 I think that was the short nosed Otter. I had no problems with the high step on that one or the other Otter. They should have done a better job of checking the heights though, level with the lower edge of the door, alll in all good aircraft.
quade 4 #10 November 17, 2003 Quote We all used it, and had to improvise, some did better than others. Well, when one of my personal heros and one of the most best and most succesful 4-way camera flyers that has ever lived gets a double J (actually the judges scored it a J and an O, but it was really a double J) -- it makes me think that -maybe- there was at least a slight issue. And like I said, one team did refuse to fly on the aircraft during competition. Whoever ends up with this airplane really ought to consider moving that step down to the row of rivets level with the bottom of the door frame.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
PhreeZone 20 #11 November 17, 2003 Has anyone expressed they concern to the current owner of the Aircraft? I've always known Paul to be receptive to feedback about his planes and if this is a way to make them better (and more leaseable/purchaseable) then CSS might be willing to listen to some input. Complaining online rarely gets problems fixed, but commenting to the owner might help. quade 4 #12 November 17, 2003 I'm fairly certain he's aware of the situation. BTW, this isn't the only airplane on the planet with a funky camera flyer's office. I've made my feeling known at a couple of places, for instance, there's one airplane at my home DZ that I'm not very fond of and I've had a few discussions with the A&P that installed the stuff, but the reality is that unless there is a financial incentive to change it, it's probably not going to ever be changed. It is a valid topic of discussion though since it does make at least a slight difference to some and a major difference to others.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Skydive2 1 #13 November 17, 2003 This aircraft (N229YK) is also listed in the DZ.com classifieds under aircraft. For a mere $850,000.00 it can be yours! Lance
freakydiver 0 #14 November 17, 2003 No doubt. Rule number one in any photographic environment, be ready to adjust. Could it be so high that it is a safety issue? IMHO, if not, just adjust. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
quade 4 #15 November 18, 2003 Quote Could it be so high that it is a safety issue? IMHO, if not, just adjust. Well, it does make it mighty tempting to climb up on top of the aircraft. BTW, if you didn't get a chance to actually see how high it is, you can take a look at THIS THREAD and compare it to the other Nationals fleet aircraft. The camera step is roughly 1 foot higher than what most folks would consider "normal".quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Rdutch 0 #16 November 18, 2003 True, did you notice the sticker on top of that otter saying "Please dont climb on top of Plane." Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
