psw097 0 #2 November 18, 2003 I sent one in for a 4-year that was fine and it was returned broken. No button for that choice.

TheBachelor 5 #4 November 18, 2003 Shortly after my 4-year check, mine started doing strange things, like not zeroing after a jump. I made on jump, and just prior to my next one, I decided to look at the window. Good thing I did. The display showed 2200 "up". It would have sucked to have a Cypres fire at 3000 feet. I sent it back, and they fixed it for free, but didn't tell me what was wrong. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years... slotperfect 7 #5 November 18, 2003 Because I do some rigging work for people, I send back about 4 a year. I have had some that were sent to SSK for maintenance that for some reason were subsequently sent to Airtec in Germany for further work. It cost more, but I don't recall how much more. Maybe one of the Airtec/SSK staffers that are members of these forums will chime in and help us out?!?!?Arrive Safely John
velo90 0 #6 November 19, 2003 QuoteJust wondering statistically how these tests turn out. I don't think Joe Public really get's to find out. You send it in, it's get checked/repaired/bits replaced and comes back . Maybe its different in the U.S. but I have never seen any results for tests on my cypres. It just took ages before it came back (8 year check). Dave
Tonto 1 #7 November 19, 2003 Mine was gone for 6 months for it's 4 year check. When I got it back - it gave nothing but shit for 2 years till I changed the battery. Then it worked fine. During that time I heard tons of excuses, from the operating tempreture of the LED to the fact that my container was too small and the unit was under physical pressure. I went out and bought a smaller reserve. You can imagine my disapointment when the unit still misbehaved. My 8 year check was due 2.5 years back - but I though - fuck em. I didn't send it. If it aint broke - don't fix it. tIt's the year of the Pig.
cloud9 0 #8 November 19, 2003 I sent mine in last year this time for it's four year. It was gone a long time so I called them. They said it failed the testing and had to be sent back to Germany. When I got it back it had no information with it as to what they did, so I called. They said it failed for temperature extreme's and that "unless I jumped on the sun, or at the north pole it would have worked just fine" I did not get a warm fuzzy feeling from what they said. Bottom line don't count on your cypres

AirtecKai 0 #10 November 19, 2003 ...QuoteI have had some that were sent to SSK for maintenance that for some reason were subsequently sent to Airtec in Germany for further work. It cost more, but I don't recall how much more. Maybe one of the Airtec/SSK staffers that are members of these forums will chime in and help us out?!?!? Hello, The price for a maintenance is always the same, independent from the amount of work on the individual unit. There are no different prices for maintenances. When the units are at Airtec or SSK for the maintenance, this is what we do : - cable check (electrically and visually) -the internal electronics are removed from the casing -heat and cold tests up to extreme areas - calibration check and adjustment - power consumption - test of the activation programming ( electronic cycle, precise duration and magnitude of ignition impulse, etc.) - any applicable updates will be done - cutter(s): , condition of cable, shielding and heatshrink, condition of the brass cover Some numbers : approx. 85% of all units are returned to the factory ( the rest is hidden in the closet and most likely not in use) Approx. 90-92% of all units pass the maintenance procedures in the normal amount of time ( 2-3 weeks) The remaining 8-10 % require more work. 8 year old units are affected more often by this than 4 year old units, time does matter. The necessity to take a unit out of the test cycle can happen at any point of the maintenance. If it's outside the acceptable tolerances, it will be brought back into them. The reason has by far not to be a "dangerous one", f.e. a too high power consumption may require a repair. Each repair requires at least the same time as another maintenance. The repair has to be done and tested, afterwards the unit has to pass all testing stages again (plus a long term test cycle for 4,5 days) with a positive result before it leaves the building. Some work can only be done here at Airtec. As you see, there are various different reasons for additional work. The technical details remain in the technical department for further reference. The test certificates contain the most important information: This unit is now good to be used for another 4 years as live saving device. That's it, I hope it clarifies a little bit what we are doing at the Cypres maintenance. Blue Skies, Kai Koerner Airtec GmbH
diablopilot 2 #11 November 19, 2003 USed to work for a company that sent 5-10 to SSK per month. About 2-3 a year needed to go back to AirTec in Germany. Added about 4-6 weeks to the turnaround.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
