ifics 0 #1 November 20, 2003 Where should I order one from? I need one for my helmet now. I know there are protracks but do they work from the inside of a helmet? (stupid question I guess ) I don't have an exposed port for one. I have a Gunner helmet and it just has a piece you flip up and put one in. Any info is appreciated. andy2 0 #2 November 20, 2003 i got mine from Baddog Services. They had the cheapest prices that I could easily find. Dave has really great customer service there, send him an email, he's usually pretty quick about getting back to you. GeeeeeeFly 0 #3 November 20, 2003 Not to worry they work fine inside the helmet... And if you are worried about the volume there are two volume settings hi and low... Square one has them a well as call ralph, peirltd... ifics 0 #4 November 20, 2003 I am guessing at my stage I don't really need to get a protrack. I think I am going to go for the pro-dyyter (sp). Yay or ney on that particular one?

CanuckInUSA 0 #6 November 20, 2003 My ProTrack fits inside of my Hawkeye helmet and I have no trouble hearing it. I did at one point have a couple of ProDytters, but I sold them because I felt they weren't very loud (compared to the ProTrack). One other thing. Audibles are good (almost essential for freefliers), but hopefully you've built up enough altitude awareness both visually as well as mentally (assuming your jump numbers on your profile are up to date). You don't want to become overly reliant on your audible. They do fail (I've been on at least one jump where my ProTrack stopped working). One of the first things I started working on when I did solo's was to gain awareness without instruments. I just held a steady arch and watched the ground, then checked the alti and so on. I feel pretty comfortable on what the ground and horizon looks like at about 5k. I have herd that audibles are good tools for freeflyers (like you said) so that is why I am in the market for one. I will go ahead with the pro-track then, if I am going to get one I might as well get the best.
GeeeeeeFly 0 #8 November 20, 2003 It's nice to have the Protrac log jumps though, as well as speed and time... "The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over"

CanuckInUSA 0 #10 November 20, 2003 Quotewhat's the dif between a protrack and a prodytter? The ProTrack will log information about your jump (such as altitude jumped from, deployment altitude, time in freefall, average speed, max speed, etc, etc, etc.) while the ProDytter only works as an audible. Plus I feel that the ProTracks are louder than the ProDytters. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
Nightingale 0 #11 November 20, 2003 what's the cost difference?
CanuckInUSA 0 #12 November 20, 2003 Quotewhat's the cost difference? SquareOne lists the ProTrack at $275 and the ProDytter at $171. For me, the ProTrack is worth the extra $100, but this may not be the case for others. Keep in mind that for some people, the ProTrack acts as their log book. The only problem with using the ProTrack as your only log book is what will you do if/when the ProTrack fails and all this nifty-neat-o logged jump info is lost. andy2 0 #13 November 20, 2003 plus you can't get someone to sign your protrack. Well I guess you could but that might devalue it if you started marking on the circuitry. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... Or if your helmet flies off in freefall. I've had 2 friends lose helmets in freefall this past year. Things I like about my Protrack: 1. I like that it logs jumps. Sometimes at the end of a weekend I forget how many I made when updating my logbook. 2. I like that it reports fallrate. 3. I like that it tells me at what alt the canopy slowed me down on opening. 4. I like that it keeps a log of time spent in freefall. For me that info's worth the money. The Prodyter doesn't do those things. Many of my friends jump Skytronic. It's usually a little cheaper and does most that stuff. Last year, I lost my MindWarp with my ProTrack inside twice. In one week. Both times I found it. Both times, neither had a scratch on them. One time, the landing was on a hard-packed grass runway. My ProTrack is very durable but you can bet I always check my chin strap before going out the door now.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
GraficO 0 #16 November 21, 2003 Pro-Dytter or Pro-Track either one is an excellent buy. I have a Guner and I can hear either one just fine (I fly both at the same time) Frankly, there isn't another audible that can match either the Pro-Track or the Pro-Dytter in quality, accuracy or price. Sure the Skytronic and the Neptune will do the same +/- as a Pro-Track and are slightly cheaper... but you get what you pay for. Is $30 extra worth it in terms of quality, customer satisfaction, accuracy, etc... in my opinion... YES... but that is up to you to decide. I'm sure that Baddog Services or any other gear retailer can take care of you... ifics 0 #17 November 21, 2003 Damn that Guner looks freggin Saweet!! Mine is just black with some stickers. I started to not like the way it looked for awhile (the design of the helmet) but soon there after got over it and I like it again.
GraficO 0 #18 November 21, 2003 THANK YOU...er... but BoneHead Chris is the one you should compliment... he did the paint job! The Guner is so quiet and comfy that I can still hear my Pro-Track in freefall on the LO volume setting... excellent skydiving helmet design. I just read that BH is about to unveil a new version of the Mindwarp...http://www.boneheadcomposites.com/news.htm GraficOGraficO "A Mind is a terrible thing to taste."
