Harksaw 0 #1 November 24, 2003 I have been skydiving for a little over a year while at college in the southeast, and have been to many dropzones in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. When I went back home to New Jersey, I jumped at two dropzones up there and noticed they both had something that no other dropzone I had been to had: an annual fee of about $15. (no, it wasn't a boogie fee) Does anyone know why this is only in New Jersey? I am guessing it is some legal thing to make the contract more enforceable in court, as New Jersey is pretty sue-happy. I can't say the facilities were better than non-fee DZs i've been to. I'm not really complaining much about paying $15 a year, just wondering why it is.__________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait. CrazyIvan 0 #2 November 24, 2003 My home DZ didn't have that fee, until this year, is sort of 'membership' and the money goes towards repairs/maintenence.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
jb092 0 #3 November 24, 2003 If you read the paper that explains the $15 fee it is for DZ improvements. People like to complain about the fee but never complain about the free pizza Cross Keys supplies every Saturday night. What could possibly go wrong? wzettler 0 #4 November 24, 2003 Consider yourself lucky with $15. My club dues are $44... I think when Jesus said "love your enemy" he probably meant don't kill them.
mr2mk1g 10 #5 November 24, 2003 I am a member of 2 at the mo. One charges £10/year, the other £30 for their 8 month season (military). Im about to join a third where I will have to pay £15/year (half price through my club so it should be £30 - again military). I don't begrudge them an anual fee... it all goes towards making it a nicer place to visit and allows them to put on more events throughout the year. Harksaw 0 #6 November 24, 2003 I realize it may be needed, I know the bills have to be paid, but what makes it different than other DZs i've been to? I'm really not complaining, just wondering. Thought it was odd that I've only seen it in New Jersey.__________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait. Dagny 0 #7 November 24, 2003 At what point does a dz request an annual fee from a skydiver? On their first jump at that dz or on subsequent jumps? I mean, if you are visiting a new dropzone and they have annual fees, are you subject to them?Take me, I am the drug; take me, I am hallucinogenic. -Salvador Dali
weegegirl 2 #8 November 24, 2003 That's kind of lame if you ask me. I hope our dz doesn't start charging a fee. Of course I would just shut up and pay it. But as far as dz improvements go, we all pitch in when work needs to be done. This year at Tecumseh, skydivers built and painted a shower house in 5 days (in time for our boogie), ran new wires underground for the trailors, expanded and built a new driveway, painted manifest and finished building last year's tiki bar. People also helped out in the building of the new gear shop. I like it MUCH better that way. Save money for jumps and use your talents to chip in on building up the best dz you possibly can. PhreeZone 20 #9 November 24, 2003 Most DZ's don't charge annual fee's, they just increase the price of jump tickets. The places that have annual fee's tend to have prices a Dollar or so lower then the rest of the DZ's in the area in my experience.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

sunshine 2 #11 November 24, 2003 Some DZ's are actually clubs. Paying dues makes you a club member and you get cheaper jump rates. Most of the work around the DZ is done by club members and that helps keep costs down. I don't mind paying club dues at all. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! ladyskydiver 0 #12 November 24, 2003 Sky Knights has a fee, but that is because it's a club and your fee is a membership fee. The fees go directly towards keeping the club in business so that people can enjoy jumping. You, also, see what the money goes towards as new improvements are made to the place. They only charge the fee to those people that are interested in getting a membership and ask to become members. Non-member jumpers are welcomed just as warmly as member jumpers.Life is short! Nullified 0 #15 November 24, 2003 At The Ranch we have a $55 annual membership fee. You don't have to be a member to jump. Being a member entitles you to $2 discount on all jumps, and The Ranch buys 20 pizzas and a keg of beer every Saturday night. If you make at least 28 jumps per season, the discount pays for the dues. Of course, the free beer and pizza make up for it pretty damn quick in and of themselves! Stay safe, Mike If you're gonna' be stupid, well, then you're most likely stupid. Stacy 0 #17 November 24, 2003 i paid my $15 every year at cross keys. Have you SEEN the amount of new planes that have pulled into that place in the last 2 years??!! I like to think that I own a seat in the Otter/Skyvan/Caravans/Porter/BiPlane/Chopper, or maybe even a seat or a window. Ordering pizza and buying a 6 pack costs more than 15$. Harksaw 0 #18 November 24, 2003 I realize the price is negligible, which is the reason I thought it was more of a legal device than a moneymaking fee.__________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Greene 0 #23 November 25, 2003 You are so wrong Mr. "Professor"?? We have never charged annual dues, and very very seldom do we ever charge a registration fee, and then only on very special event. We are proud to say only one registration fee was charged this summer, for the OHIO CRW record attempts. The skydivers did receive discounted jumps, and yes the registration fee went to pay the professionals in our sport to come to Xenia and to pay for their expenses for the to travel from afar to the mecca of Xenia, Ohio :) Visiting skydivers never "subsidize" our drop zone. Visiting skydivers and our regular skydivers pay the same amount. Have no idea where you came up with that statement that you as a visiting skydivers would subsidize our DZ. jumpers .( Skydive Greene County skydivers and visiting skydivers pay the same going rate. $20.00 to 13,500' , plain and simple. Also food is usally 99.5 percent free, and mosly 100 percent free. At Skydive Greene County, yep you bring your own drinks, we never provide beer. Never have, never will.
