didone 0 #1 November 28, 2003 I would like to put the headphones inside the helmet and listen to some music while falling. Did you ever try it? Any safety restrictions against it?

didone 0 #3 November 28, 2003 thanks a lot
 cruzlite 0 #4 November 28, 2003 d, Tried it 20 yrs ago with headphones under a nylon tankers helmet...wires were kind of a pain in the ass...would think mp3 inside helmet would be better...but as you can see it makes some people uncomfortable, which defeats the whole purpose of the idea, sooo unless its a cross-country or some such solo jump I would say you'd be better off with a box tied down in plane that everyone can enjoy. I remember some rock'n loads out of dc-3s (Mr. D?) at Freeport & Quincy. D
 dterrick 0 #5 November 29, 2003 Heya Diego! I jump (occasionally) with MP3 and earbud headphones under my open-face ski-syle helmet. If you already have the gear and are going to do a clear and pull, "inflight entertainment" is quite enjoyable. Besides the ever-present 'check with yourt DZSO' comment, I'd also suggest that inflight music can be distracting and at low jump numbers it might not be the best idea to be distracted in the patern. Hell, it's not a great idea with high jump numbers either. Make an informed decision. That which you hear through earbuds will at high volume will NOT be "hi-fi" by any means. If you're stuck in Cessna land with 20 minute climb times, rock out (or chill out, whatever) during the climb. You WILL notice how much higher than normal you need to turn the phones up - this lends credence to those veterans who tell me that you CAN damage your hearing in a Cessna over the long term! My DZO brings a book onboard and reads a chapter or so when he jumps. Geez, to be able to read Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
 tbrown 26 #6 November 29, 2003 The sound of terminal air is so much more unique - it's where you are. I'm a huge music head and love to listen to just about anything good, but for the few minutes you're in the air, the overhwelming sound is better - and it's safer to concentrate on your dive and not whether you're boppin' in time to something else. I realised that when i started to jump a quiter helmet (FFX) instead of my old gath: quite distrubing at first. Sure deaf people are doing fine without it but they do that all the time are definatly better at it than I could ever be...
