Remster 30 #1 November 27, 2003 Twice now I send an email to a couple of guys selling canopies I might be interested in.... And twice, days or weeks later, no reply. I ask the usual questions about the thing: state of the fabric, DOM, serial, etc.... are people scared to give info on the canopies? are they freaking stolen and they guys dont want to give the SN??? What gives.....Remster
johnny1488 1 #2 November 27, 2003 whats the deal with people not responding after the seller tells them about the canopy and now the deal is stuck in limbo. Yes I want it or no, thanks for your time. Not to hard. None of this is against you, just found a forum to vent. Want to buy my canopies? I'll write you back! Wait, I'ld better stop before I get castrated for advertising! <--- for skybytch Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" nightjumps 1 #3 November 27, 2003 I'm with you on that. If they're not willing to provide that info, then I won't waste my time with it. I think most of them just don't want to take the time to bust it open for S/Ns. Personally, I think a "Form" on the classifieds would be good that included all the info including S/Ns before one could submit the classified. A query could be done against the missing/stolen gear database and HH get a report of when the two match.
andy2 0 #4 November 27, 2003 how hard is it to fake a serial number in the pre sale stages though? It's still a good idea just to get all the pertinent info on a canopy like DOM, etc. Instead of just oh its a sabre 150 with about 200 jumps! Thanks that helps! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
skycat 0 #5 November 27, 2003 Everyone should keep ALL their serial numbers written down someplace that isn't part of thier skydiving stuff. You never know when you stuff might get stolen.Fly it like you stole it!

Very true, Kelli. I not only have all of mine (even for my reserve PC, freebag, soft reserve handle, BirdMan suit, etc...) written down, I also have that info sitting in my Hotmail & Yahoo mail accounts. They're in the same document with the SN's for my expensive home electronic equipment. moodyskydiver 0 #7 November 28, 2003 Yeah, I keep all my original manufacturer paperwork and SNs in a safe place (which at this point in time is NOT my computer lol). I recently sold my cypres and for the most part had an excellent experience w/the classifieds. I had several inquiries who, after replying to their questions, just disappeared. There were a few that decided it wasnt worth their time b/c it wasn't being sold through a rigger or gear dealer for verification, even though I said I'd willing provide the SN, but oh well.It was still sold and the entire money transaction,shipped/received unit was complete in under a week from the time I posted the ad.Classifieds on DZ.com rock! But I agree, its just common courtesy to reply to any/all inquiries. I spent more time replying to inquiries to tell them that the unit had already been sold than I did talking to the purchaser lol. Lolie 0 #8 November 28, 2003 I'm pretty sure I accidentally deleted a couple inquiries for some gear I have for sale, because for some reason my SPAM filters on my email account were sending them to my bulk mail folder. Now that I realize it's been happening, I've changed my filters, I posted something about it in my ad, and check my bulk mail folder. Maybe the same problem is happening to other people. If the seller is a regular poster, you could try PMing them. -Miranda you shall above all things be glad and young / For if you're young, whatever life you wear it will become you;and if you are glad / whatever's living will yourself become. PhreeZone 20 #10 November 28, 2003 Its time for me to vent now too... Whats with people stalling in sending pictures and serials only to tell you a few days later that they sold it already. If someone else is interested tell me and it might make me free up some cash a bit faster if I really want it... don't sell it and leave me waiting.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

AndyMan 7 #12 November 28, 2003 My complaint is exactly the opposite. I'm in the middle of selling a container, and the number of times I've had people lead me to believe they wanted to buy it, only to disapear is staggering. To those who're thinking about buying, but waiting for whatever reason? I have no sympathy if you lose to someone else. Shit or get off the pot, as the saying goes. scottjaco 0 #13 November 28, 2003 Shit or get off the pot, as the saying goes*** I totally agree with you! If I were selling gear, first person to cough up the cash gets the gear! Period... It would be different if I were running a demo program (in which case I would be obligated to find a good rig for someone) How annoying would it be to have a seller tell you "sorry dude, I'm holding this for someone else, but I'll call you if they flake" FUCK YOU!! I have my cash in my hand right now!

mr2mk1g 10 #15 December 1, 2003 I've got the exact same problem right now. I write and ask if the canopy is still available... it is, so I reply straight away to say fine, I'll buy it, at the price listed, (dont even make an offer) how would she like me to pay.... then nothing.... still waiting 4 days later... WTF?

WTF? every time i try to sell stuff online, i got tons of inquiries, and never any followup........quite a few times, ive had people so damn interested in stuff only to string me along till last second and decide all of a sudden they dont want it. ive also had an all out fight a long time ago in a newsgroup thread because i wouldnt post a serial number of a canopy i had for sale so they continued posting that it must be stolen eventhough i told them they could call the dz, talk to whoever they wanted, owner, rigger, etc, it wasnt good enough for them. sorry, but i post a ser.#, anyone can fake some type of bill of sale stating its theirs and i stole it. goes both ways. i care not, someone else bought it without all the whining and bitching. not long ago i had a complete rig for sale. someone wanted the reserve for a customer but i didnt want to break up the rig. someone else wanted the main. i didnt really care about the container. the guy okd a price for the main, and i said, are u sure you want this, because im splitting up the rig, and someone wants the reserve and im going to tell him ok because youre taking the main. he said yes, so i called the guy for the reserve and told him ok. 10 minutes later, after the guy for the reserve has it sold to his customer, the guy for the main calls and says, ya know what, i dont want to spend that much on that canopy, forget it and hangs up ( this after 3 or 4 calls of bickering over price and making sure he was gonna take it before i sold the reserve and broke up the rig) bottom line is, most of the time, selling crap online is a pain in the ass. most people who inquire about stuff dont even reply when you respond to their inquiry. i think alot of times, this happens so much that sometimes people just stop replying eventhough they are trying to sell stuff, i know im guilty of this sometimes.......... _______________________________ HK MP5SD.........silence is golden
