The "Cool Factor" and Safety

That addresses the problem of catching o the tab, but my convern with through the Slink itself is if the excess gets through one of the loops on the end of one of the lines. On opening the line will be held in place as tension is put on the line. Then when you release the brakes, the excess is stuck. Small chance, but figure the odds of the excess snagging on the tab.

Good point, I hadn't considered that possibility.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

Skybrat68:
What is the obvious way to stow the excess line? ... I find the suggestion in PD's report in reference to using a rubber band pretty handy.

G.P.
Rubber bands is an obvious and very good way. Velcro is another. (The excuse that Velcro damages lines is not valid, but that is another topic, so standby....)

What I'm trying to do is to get people to think and use common sense, which dictates that excess steering line be stowed.

Gary,

I stowed my excess brake line through the top of the riser because an experienced individual at our dropzone (who shall remain nameless) showed me that way to do it. Although I never really read a good explaination as to how this would cause problems with a setup that didn't involve slinks, the bulletin from PD really got me pursuing other methods.

This morning I mentioned I had been stowing it through the riser and I got a chorus of "yeah, don't do it that way." Very helpful considering it came -after- I'd been jumping my rig that way for months, chanced to read about a problem with that method on the internet, and had already decided to do something about it.

As a suggestion for the future, if an issue like this arises, you and Jason (the DZO for you 3rd party readers) should try and reach a consensus on the matter and make a nice loud statement about your concern. While it may fall upon the deaf ears of a handful of people, I know at least one person who would appreciate it.

OK, now i havent been doing this whole skydiving thing for that long...april to be exact, and still, everyday at the drop zone I feel "cool". No, im not just cool because I jump a bright yellow jumpsuit with a purple container, or not cool because I just bought my first camera with about 200 jumps, but cool because I am one of the few lucky people who have the ability on almost any given day to get into an airplane and jump from it!

from when I did my AFF, this was the best thing that I remembered. being able to go tell all my friends that I jump from airplanes for fun. I felt COOL!

Today, i still feel cool. and i feel that the ability to do this "cool" stuff can be taken away at any moment. Currently, when I was at the dropzone today, I saw someone i knew in a wheel chair that can not jump anymore due to a skydiving accident. It had nothing to do with him being cool or not, just the fact that I can tell he was missing something, he wanted to be in the air, and he prob wont be again.

We all have to realize that we all are still cool...no matter what rigs we have, jump suits, cameras ect...no matter what type of dives we do, tracking, belly, freefly ect.

I think this coolness that all of us skydivers share is one that can be taken away very quickly. And we should always remember to keep in mind to be as safe as posible, or we wont have the chance to be cool anymore.

Any comments I strongly welcome
