ifics 0 #3 December 7, 2003 When that one broke down they brought out a much bigger one. I think they called it an "aero star" or a "twin star" they said its the copter the cost guard uses, oil companies also use them for flying from rig to rig transporting ppl. They said its a brand new 8 million dollar aircraft and it holds 12ppl. It looked like a freggin limo! I didn't get to jump it because of my license but man it was HUGE!!!!!! They said it was the first time that model copter had ever been jumped in the U.S!! BEER!!!! EDIT: I cant seem to find a pic of it... The rotor was closed in though I remember that. Its huge, damnit I cant remember the name of it.
newshooter12 0 #4 December 7, 2003 Are you talking about the Dolphin?? They are sweet for sure. Really fast too. I had to shoot one for a Coast Gaurd story a while back from a fixed wing plane (sorry don't know the type... it was pre-wanting to jump out of planes stage). matt

Jethers203 0 #7 December 7, 2003 Was it a coast guard helicopter? Clint D-24352
JohnRich 4 #8 December 7, 2003 QuoteAre you talking about the Dolphin?? I think that's the one, or maybe the "Dauphin", which sounds similar phonetically, but I think is a little larger? The word was it only had 35 hours of flight time on it. It had three rows of seats, holding four passengers each. And it had an amazingly sexy black paint job with gold trim. Awesome! This was a privately owned aircraft, but the same type as used by the Coast Guard. Thanks go to Brian Moffet for arranging these helicopter jumps! Aviatrr 0 #10 December 8, 2003 QuoteI think that's the one, or maybe the "Dauphin", which sounds similar phonetically, but I think is a little larger? Dauphin is the original name of the helicopter, and there were many variants of it....but the CG version is actually called a Dolphin. They knew that the Coasties wouldn't be able to spell Dauphin if somebody said it to 'em, or be able to pronounce it if they saw it in writing....so they made it easy for 'em. jumperconway 0 #14 December 8, 2003 QuoteJust looked in the incident forum. Nothing there. What happened? Don't know enough to post it there. Name, age, jump #s,W/L Did a H/P on a load I was on, straight in approach about 500' when he crossed midway across the run way and apparently got fixated on the hay bales at the northeast side of the landing area, barely flared in front of the bale then hammered the ground then the bale and bounced backwards. Aviatrr 0 #15 December 9, 2003 QuoteThe pilot of that aircraft said it was the first time ANYONE had ever jumped from that type copter, ever! Thats a BUNCH of beer! Sorry dude, but he's wrong in that case....unless he was referring specifically to the CIVILIAN version of it, in which case he might be correct....but the Coasties have put jumpers out of their HH65's over Jacksonville before(that's the only place I have personally witnessed it)..
