skylord 1 #1 December 9, 2003 OK, I found out why I tense up before a jump. When the door opens, everyone starts doing these Secret Skydive Handshake/High Five/Lay Some Skin On Me shit that confuses me. I end up grossly groping people I just met because I have no idea how your supposed to do it. They look at me wide eyed, like "Let go of me, you perv!" It makes me feel like a virgin, again. So, can someone point me in the right direction? How come this isn't covered in the FJC? Shark, rtf98, anyone? bodypilot1 0 #2 December 9, 2003 Because then it wouldn't be a secret now would it? But go ahead and grope until you get it down. www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com

RoadRash 0 #4 December 9, 2003 Dude, have you noticed while you are groping for peoples hands that they are saying at the same time or some time during all the "secret handshake"s to have a great skydive! This is just a way for everyone on the load to wish each other great fun and good times!!! Now if you are trying to hold hands with someone on the load, well, I go for the don't ask, don't tell... Just go with it!~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~...
batbex 0 #5 December 9, 2003 different DZs different 'secret' handshakes, or maybe its only different countries - have you not noticed that everyone is doing essentially the same 'secret' handshake and thus you could just copy that? anything that diverges far from open palm wiping and then maybe closed fist single hit - then mimic a gun/aff pull signal(yes that was explained well wasn't it! ) - or do that freeflyer victory/head down signal - seems to me to be an in joke - therefore you shouldn't be doing it anyway. oh and say something deeply philosophical like 'have a good one' or that time honoured classic 'blue skies' and groping people when they have important things like reserve handles and cut away pads in the general boob area - may not be appreciated
darrenspooner 0 #6 December 9, 2003 You're lucky. I was on my 1st AFF consol and I was in the door so exited I nearly wet myself, and poor Milko was doing the door putting his hand up to me to say "wait, wait" and i thought he was offering me the secret handshake so I was shaking his hand like a madman, until he like extracted his hand from mine and practically hurled me out the door. Now he walks past me with a wary look on his face.***Die with yer boots on

WrongWay 0 #9 December 9, 2003 Quote You just think that because you sit at the front of the plane and don't see what us RWer's do before we leave... Nope, I think that cuz their version of the handshake is a classic hand grip, with a golfer style "See ya on the ground, Bob!!" and a lawyers smile. Not to mention we sing on the way up, you close your eyes and grip at the air..... (To anyone who takes offense to this post, RELAX, I'm kidding!! I like bellyflyers!!) jumper03 0 #10 December 9, 2003 It all good!!! We do this 'fist knock' five times (up-down-side-side-head on), followed by the two finger slide with a lock - pull apart motion followed by a GOTCHA jesture... We have to dirt dive that before getting on though or we f*** it up. Scars remind us that the past is real
WrongWay 0 #11 December 9, 2003 "Fist knocks" Actually we do the same thing, except at the end of the fist knocks, we pound our chests twice, then (starting at head and moving down) we give a backwards peace sign with wiggling fingers, imitating a flailing head down flyer. See, we're not that different after all!! Wrong Way D #27371 Mal Manera Rodriguez Cajun Chicken Ø Hellfish #451 The wiser wolf prevails.

mr2mk1g 10 #13 December 9, 2003 (peal) we slip our palms across each others (punch) knock fists together (pull) then give the AFF signal to pull See - its a karmic thing representing your reserve drill and giving luck for the dive ahead.
smooth 0 #14 December 9, 2003 You think this is confusing . . . during the Vietnam war era there was a similar "ritual" called a "dap" - (definition): handshake and greeting which may last up to ten minutes and is characterized by the use of both hands and often comprised of slaps and snaps of the fingers. Used by black soldiers, highly ritualized and unit specific. Can you imagine being transferred to a different unit or base and having to learn a new one each time ! ! ! WayneRATS 0 #15 December 9, 2003 usually slip plams on ther sides and knock fists usually go out the door giving a BSL C but with the right hand thus meaning C**t in a mikky taking manner really ------------------------ Can You Ere Me Now?
rjf98 0 #16 December 9, 2003 Depends on the girl you grope if you will get a hand slap or a face slap I guess What I usually do is low 5 slide of the palm then pull signal. Have a good dive don't forget to pull. My favorite however are the AFF evaluators. Boy did they get me worked up before jumps. The evaluator and the camera guy usually had different shakes for different stuff that the evalutor knew he was going to pull on the dive. By the end of the course though you started getting the feel for it and could pretty much guess what they were going to do. Think high five rolling off of your back while spinning. sunshine 2 #17 December 9, 2003 Different people do different handshakes. It all has the same meaning though. Me and my FF buddy have a special handshake that we only use with each other. It's just a fun little thing to do before exit. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!

sunshine 2 #19 December 9, 2003 QuoteOh, I've got one. My right hand to your left ass-cheek. It's like that Masonic one, but for skydivers. Funny, at my C182 DZ, we have a pilot that always smacks the ass of the last person out. Well on the way up to altitude, i decided to jump naked so i took off my clothes in the plane. Didn't think to tell the pilot, so when he smacked my ass he was quite surprised. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! sdgregory 0 #21 December 9, 2003 Quote Please post video if available. Yeah please. I could hardly move to the door and I was the second to last person out. We just want to see if it can be done that's all, honest. No other alterior motive at all.
