Would you recommend a Smart reserve?

That could be a Smart choise. I tried it once, it was much more pleasant than Lo-Po. They are all reliable, just buy the cheapest and wish you never need it.;)

All reserves are not created equal. Some reserves do better in high speed tests than others; some land better at high loadings, and some have quality problems. It's worth asking around, and it's DEFINITELY worth demoing one if you can. F111 7-cells often don't land like you think they will at the high loadings people tend to put on their reserves.

How about the quality and reliability. Basically, would you jump one, or even better, have you ever tested one?

They seem to have tough construction, and fly well. I'd jump one as a reserve. I have jumped a demo as a main as well.

That's what I'd heard. Unfortunately I cannot make arrangements to demo one at this point as I don't have a reserve in my enw container yet (Mirage G3 M4) (my oldcontainer is not TSOed hence I can't jump it here). I want one that I can load no more than 1lb/sq ft. More than the price I am looking for safe landings in not so ideal spots.

When I was shopping for reserves recently I checked out the Smart too. From everything I read/heard, it is equivalent to the PD reserves in quality and performance. Dave from Sunshine Factory actually told me that he trusts it as much as PDs. It is cheaper because it is newer, and won't have as high a resale value, but it's the only other reserve I would buy after grilling many, many experienced skydivers and riggers.

Still, is it the Tempo re-branded?

For those of you who may not know, Aerodyne and PISA merged and their new reserve is the Smart, replacing the Tempo (who was made by PISA). I'm just curious to know from people / riggers who have seen both if the Smart is a new canopy or, shall we say, a Tempo2.

Absolutly not. One look at the design and construction, and you can see MAJOR differences. It also exists under a completely different TSO than any of the PISA products were issued.
