I think SCUBA has less inherent danger than skydiving but much more opportunity for people to take on risks they aren't prepared for without realizing it. Of course, we don't have to deal with sharks. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
catfishhunter 2 #53 December 11, 2003 I have no Idea. I just heard those stats. Greatest fear I have is drowning so scuba is not something I ever plan to do.Never much into swimming either. Was just a nesseccary evil to get back to the cliffs to jump off them again. MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. If she is going to forbid you to do something that is relatively safe because of HER fears, she is not comprimising. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
Surf 0 #55 December 11, 2003 Good point, but it's also about love. At this point how much am I really hurting for a skydive? She visited the dz with me, and when she saw a diver track to opening, she had a panic attack. How selfish is it for me to put her into a panic attack just because I want something? Update-she's getting better about it. We've tabled the discussion until after the holidays, but I'm trying to schedule a hot air balloon ride to help her calm down.. "Nothing is written"- T.E. freakydiver 0 #56 December 11, 2003 IMHO a hot air balloon ride has more of a chance of having a worse outcome then a skydive... Case in point - BOTH times I've had to land in the basket, it was very very rough and scary as all shit. Give me my canopy over that any day. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --

dropoutdave 0 #58 December 12, 2003 IMHO if your spouse/partner refuses to accept your skydiving, even after they have been educated about the sport and the all the ins and outs of it then they are with the wrong person. If the person who you are with wants you to change then they should find someone who fits in with their 'criteria'. We've all been in realtionships where the other person has tried to change us in one way or another but if you do not love everything about the person you are with, face it, you are with the wrong person. I'd sooner be single than be with someone who'd try and stop me from doing something I love. It's the fear of being single and not finding 'the one' that forces people to be in realtionships that they are not truley happy with. Some might see this as a sometwhat selfish attitude to take, yeah, so what, at the end of the day i'd rather hang in there and find my 'soulmate' than spend the rest of my life not totally happy. Just my 2p. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......

Eiley 0 #60 December 12, 2003 QuoteMost Dangerous extreme sports #1 Snowmobiling #2 Scuba Diving #3 Skydiving LOL. Stats I have heard (also without backup) are that the most dangerous sports judged by deaths per participant hours are: #1 Rock Fishing #2 BASE Jumping #3 Cave Diving How they actually estimate the participant hours, I have no idea. Cheers, Eiley nothing to see here
