flyinghonu 0 #1 December 11, 2003 I want to get my husband to go for a tandem (he is a little nervous about the whole thing). Problem is my husband is a fairly large guy (6'3" & 240 lbs). Our DZ (San Diego) and most others limit tandems to 230 lbs max. Do any of you experienced jumpers know how I might be able to arrange a tandem for my husband in light of his size - or does he need to hit the treadmill? YahooLV 0 #2 December 11, 2003 IMHO, most canopy configurations are designed for a certain max weight load. Go for the New Years Resolution and drop 10-15 pounds and have a safer jump excperience. Also, most DZ's will charge a buck or two over about 200-225 . Drop the weight and come up to Jim Wallace at the Perris drop zone and make a safe, fun, unbelievable jump!http://www.curtisglennphotography.com
AggieDave 6 #3 December 11, 2003 Yes on both questions. I personally know instructors in Texas that will take a 240lbs student on a tandem, IF the conditions are right. Since they're close or at the tandem gear's weight limit, the instructors usually want to see that the student is a solid 240lbs (read: athletic) and atleast 10mph of non-gusting constent wind. Basically, go to your DZ and talk to the TMs there, the head instructor or the DZO/S&TA. If they can't help you, they may know someone or somewhere that can.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
