jumperconway 0 #26 December 16, 2003 QuoteQuote Seems to me that they could put some kind of rubber boot on that to cover the open hook. I don't see how that could be possible and still have the door function. My bad, that holds the door shut? Didn't jump the van at POPs world
PhreeZone 20 #27 December 16, 2003 I'm not that fimiliar with the Van door, but I think those are the pins the door matchs up to for its alignmentas its closed. I know the locking mechinism is at the bottom of the door. Simple fix... get a Casa Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
gemini 0 #28 December 16, 2003 Thanks for the post Quade. I saw them looking at the guys foot on the ground and thought it was a landing incident. Part of the problem may be that the correct RW exit for a diver is head down (relative to the ground) and to get big in the head down position in order to use the forward speed of the aircraft to launch you toward the base. With the normal pitch up of the tail and his concentration on going head down early, I can see how he may have caught the hook. Thing that worries me is that with all my Skyvan jumps, I have never even noticed the hook! Wonder what else I may be missing.... rdesilets 0 #30 December 16, 2003 Thats me on the left side (the guy who did not loose his shoe) Seemed to me like a 'normal' exit from the skyvan (at least like all the other exits during the camp), I think that Mark (the guy who lost his shoe) might have been a little high and for some reason a little too close to the side Yahoo.. that camp was fun! happythoughts 0 #31 December 16, 2003 QuoteSimple fix... get a Casa On a CASA, there is hydraulics near the tail. One has a cotter pin on it. At Rantoul '03, we got Paul to put a bunch of duct tape on it because of previous experiences with snagging body parts on it. Be careful of that pin. It is pointy. At WFFC '02, a friend unzipped the side of his finger with it.
airgord 1 #32 December 16, 2003 the airplane "unloads" for that one second during the launch even if the pilot is totally on top of the controls the "G" force lightens and the adrenaline soaked jumper is helped by that into whatever bits stick out, in this case the door stops. eliana found this out on friday, she is now the proud bearer of a nice big hematoma on her left quad. oooooouuuch. TowerTopper 0 #33 December 17, 2003 I too never noticed those hooks up there, of course thats most likely because I like to run out of the skyvans from the foul line and do a back gainer go out. Nothing like having the prop wash in your face to help spin you around.
