rjoseph14k 0 #27 December 17, 2003 Try using the same multi color canopy if at all possible. Then your going to be able to separate those lines with out even thinking about it. Are you hanging the canopy over your shoulder or from a hook. I used a hook because it makes it a whole lot easier(at least it did for me).

SDiver218 0 #29 December 17, 2003 So you only have to jump one of your pack jobs? I had to jump three of mine before I got signed off. No fair! In all seriousnous though, don't worry about whether or not it will open or if it will be a mal. Just enjoy the ride. meltdown 0 #30 December 17, 2003 Just one more question: has anyone had this same experience? I was learning to pack a couple of weeks ago, and I just couldn't make heads or tails of anything. A lines, B lines, I couldn't tell. I STILL don't know what it means to "quarter the slider". I think that's why this is a legitimate concern of mine. Anyone? _______________________________________________ My last 3 jumps were on my first 3 pack jobs and they all opened fine. Just be sure to tell 'em on the plane you're a high puller! I just bought a rig, and thankfully, the previous owner color coded the lines, but it still takes like all day to pack the fuckin' thing. You probably ought to figure out the slider thing before you jump it though or you might get whacked.

I STILL don't know what it means to "quarter the slider". Quartering the slider is where you pull the fabric from the slider between each set of lines. This is after you put the slider on the bumpers. See the link below for a pic. http://www.skydivetheranch.com/propackpics/image009.jpg Mike

tbrown 26 #33 December 18, 2003 Chins up, you'll do just great. Especially with square canopies, they really do WANT to open. In the old days (oh god, here I go again...), a students were taught how to pack for their first freefall, which was like jump #6. I'm not making this up, your first freefall, sixth jump, was your first pack job. I don't think I've ever seen a first freefall student have to cutaway either. Anyway, the sooner and the more you pack, the more confident you'll feel about it. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !
firstime 0 #34 December 19, 2003 I have to agree, I spent about an hour ( brand new canopy) fiddle fu$%ing around with it. When I dumped , whoa, a little hard??? my speed bag was hanging around my ankles
marks 0 #35 December 19, 2003 QuoteIf I pack and jump my own chute for the first time, and I have a mal, will it still get signed off for my A license card? I guess it'd be better if it didn't, otherwise I'd probably never jump my own pack job again. Kelly i wouldnt sign you off if you had a mal.... but if i wasnt looking and you told me you packed it and i watched you jump it i would sign you off....
