dropdeded 0 #1 December 29, 2003 Been smacked on my last two jumps, different gear both times so I know its got to be body position. First time a couple weeks ago, I Definately knew I got smacked. Jumped saturday, concentrated on stability and keeping my head up on deployment but apparently got smacked again. Didnt know it til I saw the mark on my left cheek the next morning. (210 rental gear) Suggestions? dropdeded------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
ChileRelleno 0 #2 December 29, 2003 A helmet... Ya ya ya I know I'm a smartass and a belated Merry Christmas to you and your wife. I try to fly my body all the way thru the initial opening sequence keeping my head down holding heading and horizon, once the deployment actually brings me upright do I then watch the opening and perhaps give it a little encouragement with the risers if needed. I don't know if this'll help, but I've never been slapped. Then again maybe those rental canopies are just putting you in your place like the biotch that you are ChileRelleno-Rodriguez Bro#414 Hellfish#511,MuffBro#3532,AnvilBro#9, D24868
Nightingale 0 #3 December 29, 2003 I do the same. Pull, maintain arch, until I feel the canopy pull me upright. then I watch the opening.
diablopilot 2 #4 December 29, 2003 How well do those harnesses fit, and how tight are you wearing your chest strap. If the harness is too long it can allow the riseres to remain really close together on deployment. Having your chest strap too tight can do the same.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. dropdeded 0 #5 December 29, 2003 The last felt small, and on a gear check it was suggested that I loosen my chest strap, I did. Im just gonna have to find the rig that fits best and get my hands on it first. I just really dont think I was in a bad position on deployment, but I guess Im gonna find out. dropdeded------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -

Antithesis 0 #13 December 30, 2003 I did unfortunately loose a protrack because of that. Bad head position when I was beginning to learn to jump video. I do have an awesome video of it falling from my head against a cloudy background though. I travel the land, Work in the ocean, Play in the sky
SkydiveNFlorida 0 #14 December 30, 2003 Not that it is a stability on deployment issue, but I saw someone mention it. Anyhow, I was having some instability on deployment for a while and got some advice to fly my pull position for a couple seconds before pulling. It helped a lot. So, now I go belly, then I wave off and reach to pull, but just hold it for a couple seconds nice n stable then pull... well, most of the time I do this, the times I don't the openings are not as nice to me. I've never been slapped by risers, so I don't really know what would cause that, tho. Angela.
