AggieDave 6 #2 January 8, 2004 Did you demo a Xfire2? You should. You really really should.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
PhreeZone 20 #3 January 8, 2004 Neither? The Diablo is no longer made and there are other options then the Cobalt. I'd stay away from any elliptical if you want to jump a wingsuit. I just had a friend's Heatwave loaded at about 1:1 spin up on him and result in a chop on his wingsuit. Wingsuit deployments are very weird and a nice big fat 7 cell square is ideal for them. In over 100 wingsuit jumps I've been close to chopping my canopy about 10 times since the openings were so funky.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
TALONSKY 0 #4 January 8, 2004 I would second the Crossfire 2. Although not recommended (and should not fly elliptical canopies when starting to wingsuit fly) but I love mine and have over 100 plus wingsuit jumps on it( I made over 50 wingsuit jumps on a square canopy first). Most of the Birdmen lean more toward the Sabre 2 as the canopy of choice though. Kirk
Ron 10 #5 January 8, 2004 Im not going to vote.... You should jump all, and see what you like. However, the Diablo is not made anymore, and the Cobalt would never get a vote from me. If you were going to start flyinga WS I would get a Sabre2. I have a Stiletto, and it is the main reason I have not done a WS jump yet."No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers,
diablopilot 2 #6 January 8, 2004 The Diablo was a great canopy and you are very likely to find some great deals on lightly used ones. PM me for details.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

VectorBoy 0 #8 January 9, 2004 I love the diablo, but the diablo and the stilleto would be my last choice for a wingsuit main. A crossfire or cobalt would be OK as long as you have perfected deploying these before you ever jump on a wingsuit. I jump a cobalt or two with the wingsuit but I had a hundred jumps on them before my first wingsuit jump. Spectres are great for wingsuits but not if you want the glide of the 9-cell. Sabre2 is good and little more tame than the x-fire, cobalt for deployments in a wingsuit. Demo some semi-elliptical nines before you dable in full elliptical nines. Your ability has almost as much to do with good deployment under a wingsuit as the right canopy for wingsuit flight.
diablopilot 2 #9 January 9, 2004 I disagree with your choices. While first and formost I would advise jumping a wingsuit with a canopy you are VERY familiar with, the Diablo would IMO be a better choice than a Stiletto or Cobalt. As a 7 cell planform the Diablo is quite a bit more stable, and prone to better openings than either of those two canopies. I've jumped wingsuits with all three, and then some.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. I agree with your advice to be very familiar with your canopy before going wingsuit. But a certain paradigm in the design of both of those canopys are pistol quick turns.... More so than an equally loaded high performance x-braced canopy. Turns, thats all. This could have an effect on your wingsuit deployment for the quik second you are even a hair out of symetry during your deployment. Both of these canopys don't fly straight level after being spun up. Neither are easy to kick out of line twists easy. Now, they are both known for super soft openings. Cobalts and X-fires have a better rep for flying straight under line twists. But if things go bad under the cobalt or X-fire these will dive much more than the stiletto or Diablo. I bet if we held a poll about wingsuit reserve rides due to line twists the stiletto would be at the top of the list.
