benny 0 #51 January 14, 2004 Quote I think what started me on this whole tangent was hearing about some instructors getting sick or hurt, and losing pay and worrying about rent because they didn't have sick time or insurance or the other benefits that come with being a full time employee. What I heard from them is that they would trade a little less pay for some better benefits when they really needed them. Plus, there's the whole issue of coordinating supply and demand. Here, it's pretty cold and the skies are often far from clear during these months. If they were actually employed with hard set hours, employers, or DZO, might be faced with the paperwork involved with laying people off (and the hassle that comes with it and rehiring) during the "off" season. Working as an IC is like feast or famine. The way it's set up, the good times, well as the french say... laissez les bon temps roullent! But, as my JM for level IV pointed out, "I made $62 this week." Never go to a DZ strip show.
kallend 2,148 #52 January 14, 2004 Maybe it was already mentioned, but how about liability of one sport jumper towards another? There has been (at least) one judgement against a jumper that I'm aware of, for injuring another during a skydive.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. Michele 1 #53 January 14, 2004 Poor Jerry - we are sure giving you lots to work on!! How about pre-existing, non-disclosed medical conditions, ie hypertensivity, and who's liable if something goes wrong (or maybe this would fit into the liability waiver, as we state we are in good physical health...wouldn't lying void that, in part??)
