firstime 0 #1 January 14, 2004 Hello All, I have general question re: a drop zone down south. I was looking for a warm weather spot that I could drive to rather than fly. The drop zone that I checked out, (8 hr drive) is NOT a member of the USPA. Is this a choice of the dropzone or of the choice of the USPA . What gives??? benny 0 #2 January 14, 2004 Wow, 8 hours is quite a drive. There is probably a USPA affiliated DZ closer to you. Check the dropzones section on this site or www.uspa.org. Never go to a DZ strip show.

PhreeZone 20 #4 January 14, 2004 90% of the time its the choice of the Dropzone. Some don't feel like paying the money since they feel they don't get anything out of it, some like to do things a little different and would break things like windlimits too often and would get kicked out in the end, others just don't want the politics that some times comes with it.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
koz2000 1 #5 January 14, 2004 Mike Mullins , who is a USPA national director, owns DZ's that are not USPA DZs.______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
firstime 0 #6 January 14, 2004 thanks for the reply, I was a little taken back with them not participating (uspa) but the only one that can break the rules re: wind and other factors is me.
FrogNog 1 #8 January 14, 2004 You could voluntarily abide by the BSRs on your own when you jump there... (In fact, aren't we supposed to, as USPA members?) -=-=-=-=- Pull.
slug 1 #9 January 14, 2004 QuoteHello All, I have general question re: a drop zone down south. I was looking for a warm weather spot that I could drive to rather than fly. The drop zone that I checked out, (8 hr drive) is NOT a member of the USPA. Is this a choice of the dropzone or of the choice of the USPA . What gives??? You've got 55 jumps so you know what's going on safety wise. Go to the DZ and check it out. Do you think their operating in a safe manner, are the following the BSR's etc. Most DZO's like any small business person are independent by nature. DZ's are not required to join USPA. How may DZ's applications for GM status has has USPA turned down. Read previous posts about USPA visiting GM DZ's to insure the BSR's are being followed. Does anyoneone know If Ted Mayfields DZ in oregon was a USPA GM. If it was when or if did USPA take action to remove his GM status. Was it prior to or in response to the state taking legal action against Mr Mayfield after the last accident at his DZ. Why doesn't THE GM DZO's have their own trade organization rather than belonging to a skydiver organization paid for by skydivers. What is the total amount of annual dues paid by GM DZO's to USPA vs the dues paid by USPA jumpers? How many DZO's or their employee's are also ST&A's How many DZO's are on the USPA board of director's? How many fatalities per year occur at non USPA DZ's. Why are some USPA GM DZ's allowed to bar all USPA members (except their staff and students) from jumping at their DZ's. R.I.P. BTW I was a USPA member for approx 15-20 yr's The sport has always been evolving but with the addition of AFF & Tandems the DZO income has significantly increased and the benifit's of the USPA Stamp of approval is significant however financial support of USPA GM due has not increased at the same rate. Politic's? monopoly? Don't know or care I'm no longer a member! Guess why!
EDYDO 0 #10 January 14, 2004 I would like to see a list of all dropzones with a distinction as to which is which. Ed
wzettler 0 #11 January 14, 2004 If you go to the "Dropzones" tab on this website and look up a DZ, it says in the description whether they are a USPA member or not... I think when Jesus said "love your enemy" he probably meant don't kill them.

firstime 0 #13 January 15, 2004 Thanx for the reply, your statements are well rounded and gives one some thinking. I will do what ever I have to do at another dropzone to stay away from other jumpers regardless of their policy. You have answered my question with one simple post. I will still be a member of the uspa ( I like the monthly rag).
bodypilot1 0 #14 January 15, 2004 The DZ being a "group member" of USPA doesn't make any less safe as a DZ. Also, being a skydiver with a membership to USPA doesn't make you any safer. If you feel you USPA's guidelines are safe, then go by them at ANY DZ you are at whether it's a member of USPA or not!www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com
