Ad lib... If the (temperature on ground) <= ___, then (NO jump).

I exited an airplane at 3,500 feet this Saturday. It was -17 on the ground:S:D

Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.

I said 40 even though I've jumped in less than that. 30s on the ground is just uncomfortable, and less than that has to just be painful. It's only my hands that bother me though. If I could find decent gloves I dont think temperature would stop be till it got real cold.

Just because the plane ices up doesn't mean I don't or won't wanna still jump.
Its never too cold, its a matter of mind over matter:P.

Maybe a lack of mind over matter:P JK, but I still think you are crazy for jumpin if its that cold:)

"AIN'T NEVER" = double-negative = IS ALWAYS

BZZZZZZZ wrong.

"ain't never too cold." would just mean "there is a time when it's too cold." not "it's always too cold."

anyway

If the plane can't fly... we still don't know if it's too cold to jump, because there's no way to try it.

-273 C

right... when our molecules stop, we probably won't be up for skydiving.

I like the ground temperature to be above 0 C (32 F)
Never cared to much about what it is at altitude.

Would probably jump down to -10 C (14 F) if I really wanted to jump.

Anything below -20 (-4 F) is not jumpable in my book, although some people will jump then to if they can get the plane in the air.:o

There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I once jumped on New Year's Day when the ambient temp was 20 degrees. I don't know which was worse...the ride up in a C-182 or the canopy ride down.

That was a long time ago. IMO anything below 40 degrees is too cold. Guess I'm not as young as I once was.

Yeah, so far the 40's have it. It seems like most of the people under 20-degrees just say, "screw it" and jump in any temperature.

Too bad there isn't a way to do a poll on just the people responding to this thread; then we could also find out how many jumps everyone has. I would argue that during my first 3 or 4 years jumping I would have jumped in any temp. Now-a-days, it's 60 or above. ...consistently, at that; and I live in New Jersey. This narrows my season down to about 7 or 8 months.

Keeping psychologically 'current' with many more jumps is easier to do than for those with very few. This is also a competing factor toward peoples preference.

Anyone care to argue my point or elaborate??? :)

What about when the plane wings ice up?

Then I'd definitely want to jump out.
