boarding behind a plane???

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if it has ever been done

like tie a water ski tow rope to the plane and skysurf behind it.

This has my curosity maxed. what about using like a bungee cord so that the slam on the arms would not cause problems?

Would anybody try this?

I'm sure I've seen video of Patrick De Gayardon doing this on one of the early Travelling films or similar.

I've done it from a S/L to get photos of a students perpective of a hangup.
I used a climbing sit harness and a karabiner thru my chest strap to keep me head up. I just cut the S/L with a hook knife. It was pretty easy to stay stable.

There are a couple videos on skydivingmovies.com (coming soon!) of wingsuits getting towed behind planes. One attempt behind a 182 or 206, don't remember, by Joe Jennings. The plane wasn't nearly fast enough, and he hung way below the plane. The other one is Felix Baumgartner behind a B-25. He was a bit unstable, and the swinging around did some damage to the tail end of the fuselage and eventually broke the climbing hardware holding him to the plane. Video ends with the car pulling up to some random house in germany where felix is drinking wine with a family wherever he landed.

There's a Senseless Acts Of Video with Troy Hartman on a wakeboard. Was that behind a helicopter though?

Gus

That's the MTV show, right? It was done with a helicopter.
And I think I have a video somewhere of Joe Jennings 'bodysurfing' behind a plane- just a camera suit on, no board.

A friend and I were once discussing the possibility or a Winch that could let you out on a water-ski-type rope. There would be no 'slam' if you exited right and were fed more and more rope by the winch... it would also facilitate bringing the rope back into the plane afterwards.

It is on "Good Stuff"

Is that the one with the yellow (I think) camera suit where he's swinging below something out-of-frame and then he disconnects and falls away? Or is there a different shot that's longer?
