billvon 3,116 #1 February 3, 2004 Tuesday After some remarkable progress Monday, we got complacent on Tuesday. First jump was at around 9am, but there were some serious problems with wacker levels and we built to 230 out of 369. Second jump was 321 out of 368, and the third jump was 324 out of 363. On the last jump, pretty much all the wackers were complete except for wacker 6, which only had a few people docked. We also had Dale G low on sector 2, and I think one or two missing from other wackers. The final pictures show a lot of discipline in our sector; there's a perfect line with a Dale-sized space left in it. Due to the design of the dive, it's actually possible to get back up and into your slot if you go low. All the sectors have "no man's land" aisles where people can float up, fly back in and get back into their slot. The second jump was interesting. The base ended up either leaving a bit late or really sailing, and the first sector-2 people (including me) had to float up to the base a ways and then make our way around 180 degrees of the formation as people were diving on it. We made it, although Hod said that if it had been even 20 feet higher he would never have gotten back up. The four of us have something of an identity crisis - we usually debrief with the base, but are technically part of sector 2, which is Melanie and Rusty's sector. Since people were heaping praise on the base today for their consistency and speed, we decided that we were base meat (at least for today.) We had a few injuries today. One dislocated shoulder, one bleeding ear (pressure problems) and an unspecified injury that grounded someone. As usual, pictures can be found at www.theworldteam.com. We had yet another birthday today (happy birthday Brenda) and a handful tomorrow. Our plan is to get the record tomorrow and then combine the birthday and world-record parties into one. We'll see how that pans out.

billvon 3,116 #3 February 3, 2004 A few more updates after talking to people at dinner: -Three more people confirmed on the disabled list. One dislocated shoulder/broken humerus on exit (note to helpful first responders - do NOT try to reduce a dislocated shoulder if the guy's arm is broken.) One sinus problem, one serious ear problem. Attempts tomorrow will likely start at around 355. -Ray Ferrell had a canopy collision with Gustav the camera guy. Neither was hurt, fortunately, but Ray's new canopy was torn neatly in half by Gustav's body. Ray is a pullout from the center, and Rusty spent some time talking about how to avoid that sort of problem in the future.
mccordia 74 #4 February 3, 2004 Quite amazing how a 300 used to be an extreme record, and now all of sudden a jump with 321/324 people in their slots is talked about in an almost disappointed way Most of us can only dream of being in something like this someday (when 300 ways become state or even local dropzone records)JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? BillyVance 35 #8 February 5, 2004 Billvon, There is a deaf skydiver on the World Team - Hiro Masuda from Japan. I was wondering how he's doing, whether he's still doing the jumps or what. If you see him, tell him I said hello! Of course, you might have to write it down for him to read.
