Resizing a harness?

Recommended Posts

Is resizing a harness a bad thing?

Say hypothetically i came across a great deal on a rig, but it was slightly big for my small frame...would having it resized be an ok thing to do? Or would it be better to keep looking for one that fits better?

I realize the people get their harnesses resized, Im just wondering if there are pros and cons to doing this. And also, what the better option would be.

Keep in mind that this would be my first rig...

Pros? Yeah, your harness will fit, you'll be more comfortable and possibly safer.

Cons? Um, you have to send your rig to the manufacture and spend a relatively small amount of money.

Call up the manufacture and talk to them about it, they'll be able to set you straight on everything.

I'm buying a container for my fiance right now and that's what I did before I oked the purchase, was call up Jumpshack and talk to them. Its good to go, so its a done deal for me and her. I'll be shipping the rig off this coming week for some adjustments.B|

Well i wouldn't ever consider not resizing it...i guess i was just asking if it was better to keep looking or if it didn't really matter....would a resized one fit just as confortably as another one originally made that size? is there any difference?

As I understand it (remember I'm not a rigger), a harness is a harness. They can even rebuild the entire harness for your container if you need to, they'll adjust it for you, etc. Just call up the manufacture and talk to them, they'll give you the low down, what it'll cost, what they can do, what it will do to the rig, etc. Remember, no one knows your rig better then they do.:)

I bought a Javelin used for my second rig, sent it to SunPath and they resized the harnass including putting brand new leg straps on. I also had a new BOC pouch and a Bridle Cover installed. I was into it about $200 with all that. I was definitely pleased with the result, made a dramatic difference in the rig and it was significantly more comfortable.

Had a friend of mine do that with a Javelin, cost was about $250.00 and time was about a month. Just depends on "How good of a deal" you got on the rig. If it is a REALLY REALLY good deal, go ahead and have the harness changed out. but like everyone else has said, check with the Manufacture to be 100% sure.

I had mine shortened when I bought it. It fits me fine, although I've never had a custom fit rig to compare it to. 20 more days till I do though! By the way, I won't "advertise" it in the forums, but my rig will be going up for sale (with my old canopy) as soon as the new container arrives. PM me if you want details. No idea if it'll fit ya, but it's small!
