ACMESkydiver 0 #26 February 19, 2004 Looks fantastic! I'd love to try...but really there are so dang many planes flying around our DZ...I'd just be worried about that. However, I did see it mentioned here that the plane has to stay with you? So it kind of circles you for a while, is that it? I guess I'd feel a lil' safer with that. Had a small plane fly directly underneath me before whilest under canopy...he didn't know that there were 2 landing areas for skydivers, apparently...not good... Didn't scare me. For some reason it didn't strike me as odd, as there was no worry of collision, until I landed and a friend on the ground asked me if it scared me. Then I had to think back...'Oh yeah, sheesh it was flying directly over our X wasn't it?' ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. racer42 0 #29 February 19, 2004 Canopy tag is great fun. We pull right out the door. Just remember to watch for traffic. I had a Piper Cherokee fly directly underneath me 2 weeks ago. Same jump I had another aircraft at my altitude at about a half mile. dreamsville 0 #30 February 19, 2004 Renee, 1) The first picture is one of true beauty. It is one reason we concentrate on managing the risks so we can obtain such rewards. 2) In your second picture, it looks as though the inlet to the northeast of the DZ is in the photo next to your leg. Here is a picture of the sunset at Ixtapa, Guererro, Mexico. You can see a canopy in the upper left corner. There was a lot of humidity at this hour. More pictures will follow as time goes on, showing the beauty of where we jumped two weeks ago along the beach. |I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
kallend 2,146 #31 February 19, 2004 Quote The pilot has to stay with you until 8K. Below that, no "escort" is needed. Do you have a reference for that?... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
DShiznit 0 #32 February 19, 2004 I asked one time when I was watching CReW work, and was told by the chief pilot that they circle the formation until 8,000' to "protect" them from air traffic, as there is quite a bit where this took place due to a major airport nearby. It's something I was told, didn't mean to imply it was mandatory as directed by the FAA or anything.
BBKid 0 #33 February 19, 2004 Crappy UK weather means I probably won't be able to do this for a while - bugger! Even when I do, I need another 150 jumps before I'm allowed to take up any sort of camera. Nick --------------------------- "I've pierced my foot on a spike!!!" FrogNog 1 #34 February 19, 2004 QuoteHad a small plane fly directly underneath me before whilest under canopy...he didn't know that there were 2 landing areas for skydivers, apparently...not good... Yeah, he didn't see the second parachute icon on the sectional and he didn't see it in the list of parachuting activity locations at the back of the AFD. I thought I heard the problem is our non-airport landing area is right underneath a natural "highway" for people flying from some strips out East. The small airplanes down low scare me because they come so close so often, but the big monsters up high scare me because they're freakin' huge. I dunno about doing high openings in these parts. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
HRHSkyPrincess 0 #35 February 19, 2004 Get 8 to 10 skydivers to make a cross country jump. Ask the pilot to check upper level winds and let you out the appropriate miles upwind of the dz. Jump and dump. It will take about 20-30 minutes to get back. It's awesome flying like a flock. Brief everyone in advance on proper attire, landing out, and the buddy system. Good idea to carry a cell phone safely tucked away. It's a blast and you can do CReW on the way back, too. :)***************** Attitude is everything! Hmm, think I will ask this weekend.
