pccoder 0 #1 February 20, 2004 Seems like so many skydive deaths are related to bad decisions at low altitudes while under canopy or something of this nature. When non-skydivers (friends, family, co-workers) ever mention a skydive death, their initial comment is always "Did his/her chute not open?" I want to come back and tell them, this like never happens; but realistically does anyone know the actual numbers say over the past 10 years of true double malfunctions which resulted in death? Thanks PcCoder.net

ZoneRat 0 #6 February 20, 2004 You may find this helpful. http://www.ilmailuliitto.fi/laskuvarjo/ktk/Safety_Report_2002.pdf There's a tread discussing it somewhere. Here's an applicable quote from it: Fatalities with jumper still having serviceable equipment (all 33 countries) By careful estimation it appears that 96% (64 of 67) of the fatalities happened with the jumper having at least one good parachute on his or her back. It also appears that 60% of the fatalities in 2002 (40 of 67) occurred after the successful deployment of the main parachute.“There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”
