base698 20 #1 February 21, 2004 I was arguing with a coach friend of mine and he insists that after student status (jump 8 or 9) that they are still considered students. I consider them off student status at that point. He did mention the SIM calls them students... What do you consider them?

orbitjunkie 0 #4 February 21, 2004 According to the SIMS you still on student status till you get your A. Technically you are supposed to be jumping solo or with a rated coach or higher. Technically anyways
CanuckInUSA 0 #5 February 21, 2004 I'm going to pretend that I'm SkymonkeyOne right now, as I know exactly what his answer would be. They are considered students until they get their proficiency card completely signed off and have become a licensed skydiver. Tink1717 2 #6 February 21, 2004 According the ISP, all jumpers who do not possess the A license are on student status.Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... Kennedy 0 #10 February 22, 2004 Sorry, you lose. Like everybody's told you, they're students until they have an A, unless you're talking about operating completely outside USPA boundaries. They're still students, they're just not in the AFF level anymore, so there's no organized lesson before each jump.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

flyangel2 2 #13 February 22, 2004 QuoteI don't know anyone that is able to do a coach jump each jump after AFF. I've seen it done many times. Jumper graduated AFF and is in a big hurry to get their A license. They get coaching on every jump and improve their flying. IMO I do an organized lesson before every jump with these jumpers. Even on a hop n pop, just cause I didn't go out the door with them, doesn't mean I didn't do a lesson plan with TLO with them.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. skyyhi 0 #14 February 22, 2004 I get some kind of coaching before I go up on every jump. . .The instructors at Elsinore like to make sure they give us some kind of instruction. . .I am no longer doing AFF but definitely am a student till I get my A license. . .________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy
Kennedy 0 #15 February 22, 2004 Well, when I finished AFF a few years ago, there was no such thing as a coaches rating, and no card to fill out. You just got things signed off in the log book and the S&TA checked it when you said you were done. I didn't do a single "coached" jump until after I had my A. (1) I couldn't afford it after AFF and (2) renting gear was still damned expensive. Now I get coaching/training when I can from visiting hot shots, and I happily trade beer for a well coached jump from regulars, but it's not the same as what a preA newbie needs. [edit] I still got my A on exactly 20 jumps without the coaching.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
Kennedy 0 #16 February 22, 2004 And thanks. You were closer to what I meant than she was, but I meant there is no standard lesson or TLO applied to post AFF jumps.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
Kennedy 0 #17 February 22, 2004 I tend to call that advice, not coaching. To me, coaching involves more time on the ground than the plane ride, jump, and repack take together.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

pccoder 0 #19 February 22, 2004 Yea, I did too. Was always asking for advice from my AFF coach who was always at the DZ jumping (is a videographer as well). Yoshi, ya the man!! PcCoder.net
